BildungZroman: The Walking Dead Season Two Finale

By Adam Smith on August 22nd, 2014.

Telltale’s Walking Dead has always been Clementine’s story. From the moment she appears in the first episode of the first season, the player may be controlling Lee but Clem is the character that they’re guiding and constructing. I’ve mostly enjoyed the second season, even when the pacing has been a little too Romero-zombie, and I’m looking forward to the joyous showtune that will mark the final episode. Except…the trailer below, which recaps season one and two with spoilers aplenty, suggests things might not turn out particularly well for Clem and the gang no matter what her choices have been. Gulp.

Undying: The Walking Dead Season Three Announced

By Alice O'Connor on July 29th, 2014.

Z-z-z-zombiiieee!

Take game developers to a comic convention and they’ll get all giddy. They drink fizzy drinks, eat free candy, get their photo taken with seven Iron Mans, grab every promo t-shirt in sight, then, just before they break down in tears and beg to go home, they tell everyone what they’re making.

We may not yet have seen how Season Two of Telltale’s The Walking Dead game ends, but thanks to San Diego Comic-Con we do know that a third season will follow it.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 4 Trailer 1

By Alec Meer on July 17th, 2014.

I’ve only played the first two episodes of season one of The Walking Dead, before one of Telltale’s notorious savegame corruption bugs cost me my progress, so I’m the worst person in the world to even watch this trailer for episode 4 of season 2, let alone write about it. YOU THINK THAT’S GONNA STOP ME, PUNK?

The Walking Dead: Season 2 Continues Next Week

By Alice O'Connor on May 9th, 2014.

Is this a spoiler? This probably isn't a spoiler. I mean, the game's full of zombies, right?

I don’t mean to tell Telltale how to do their jobs, given how widely The Walking Dead is admired, but they’re missing a trick. Let’s look at the episode names for Season 2 so far, Episode 1: All That Remains and Episode 2: A House Divided. Do you see it? They’re entirely giving away that something horrible is coming. Where’s the surprise? If Season 2 had opened with a title screen reading “Episode 1: Ice Cream Party,” just think how unexpected the crushing misery would be. And who could have possibly imagined Episode 2: A Day at the Beach would end like that?

Episode 3: In Harm’s Way will arrive on May 13, Telltale announced today. Perhaps this name is a big ruse to conceal that it’s really all about Clementine befriending a duck.

Wot I Think: The Walking Dead Season 2 Ep 2

By Adam Smith on March 7th, 2014.

'eh? isn't this a game about feelings and crying and finding moments of hope and beauty in a decaying world? what am I doing here?'

It’s good to see Clementine again, even if I’m not particularly keen on the new company she’s keeping. I’ve just finished playing the first two episodes of The Walking Dead season two and I’m feeling a mixture of grief, frustration and relief. The latter is due to the strength of the second episode in particular. After a wobbly first episode, the transition to Clementine’s time is showing a great deal of care and craft. Here’s wot I think.

WHY ISN’T WOLF AMONG US PART TWO AMONG US

By Alec Meer on January 30th, 2014.

I don’t have the answer to my capslock question, I’m afraid. Telltale can’t quite be accused of being late with episode 2 of their rather good Fables adaptation Wolf Among Us as I don’t believe they ever gave a concrete release date. But they are late, let’s be honest. The first episode was four months ago. During that time, my baby has learned to a) sit b) crawl c) eat solids d) perform a frightening, wobbly standing up while feverishly gripping the edge of a table e) enthusiastically rip an entire newspaper to shreds in under two minutes, plus innumerable new ways to make my life both heaven and hell. SO I WOULD THINK IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE TO CREATE A SUB-TWO HOUR ADVENTURE GAME USING EXISTING TECH AND MANY ASSETS DURING THAT TIME.
