Deepak Fights Robots For Free!

By John Walker on August 20th, 2012.

Irresistible.

If you’re brilliant, you’ll remember Deepak Fights Robots, the frighteningly coloured platformer from the creator of RunMan, Tom Sennett. The sitar-funk-infused madness is reminiscent of Bubble Bobble, with the excellent inclusion of animal friends. And bestest of all, there’s now a slightly limited, ad-supported free web version, so you can play it now and there’s no excuse. (And the full, DRM-free version now costs only $5, half its original price.) Despite the extremely silly presentation, and shades-requiring graphics, there’s a good deal of depth to the game – it’s not just gimmicks but actually a worthy platformer too. It’s a huge pile of fun. Ensure you check out the video below.

By Brendan Caldwell on March 30th, 2012.

Fetch Your Shades: Deepak Fights Robots

By John Walker on May 31st, 2011.

This is not a representatively colourful scene.

In October 2009 I very rightly was enormously excited by the lunatic joy of RunMan. Its infectious brightness and unhinged glee were a big part of that. Developer Tom Sennett has picked up on the same vibe in his latest game, the brilliantly named Deepak Fights Robots (if you do nothing else, click on that link). It’s a puzzle platform game, heavily inspired by Bubble Bobble, but, well, brighter.

Run RunMan, Man

By John Walker on October 2nd, 2009.

I want this wall-sized in my house.

Huzzah! The lunatic primary madness of RunMan: Race Around The World is out, and it’s super-fun. You play little yellow blob RunMan, and you, well, run. Mostly to the right, smashing through obstacles and bouncing around the scenery. All displayed in child-like scratchy drawings that make my mind happy.

Last Night: When The Bomb Goes Off

By Alec Meer on May 7th, 2009.

This maudlin wee thing has amused me highly. When The Bomb Goes Off is a cartoon dose of apocalyptic giggles, accompanied by a silent movie-style piano-noodling soundtrack. The world is going to end (via atomic explosion) in 5 seconds – within that oh-so-short time, you must complete an array of unnamed characters’ final acts. Catching a football, jumping off a building, kissing the one they love, making it to class on time, turning the shower off, saving a dog from being run over, jumping to the moon… Essentially, it’s Wario Ware: Armageddon Edition.
