Raven’s Cry’s Lead Is Actually Named Christopher Raven

By Nathan Grayson on April 6th, 2013.

Quoth the Raven, 'Hi, name's Chris.'

Oh what a magnificent occasion this is. Raven’s Cry, you see, is a REAL THING about a pirate named Christopher Raven. I’ve been waiting for this day ever since I started referring to Halo’s main character as John Halo, Mark of the Ninja’s as Markof the Soviet assassin, and Call of Duty’s as whoever. Better still, Raven’s Cry actually seems like it could be worth charting a course to in your brainboat – at least on the basis that semi-authentic (read: not an Assassin’s Creed sequel) pirate games are in rather short supply these days. It’s encouraging, then, to hear that the role-player’s got its meticulously buckled swashes set on “challenging the image of pirates in popular culture” by way of a plot that’s rooted in historical fact. Kinda. Hopefully there won’t be a yaaaarring generi-pile of dumb hats and hook hands, but wouldn’t you know it: our good friend Christopher Raven has both.

Scivelation Is The Name Of A Game, For Some Reason

By Jim Rossignol on January 23rd, 2013.

Scivelation. BluesNews spotted that the Unreal-powered sci-fi action game from Ukrainian devs Black Wing, which was first announced in 2010, now has a “Q4 2014″ release date from Germanic publishing house Topware Interactive. The game itself consists in controlling two characters: the shooty man, and the stealth lady. Getting through the levels apparently relies on employing the skills of both. Also, because I cannot be accurately described as an objective journalist, I can’t resist posting this auto-translated sentence from the German press release: “This game combines two of the most successful styles of the genre and combines them into one incomparable masterpiece full of action, tactics and emotions.” We can only pray that this is true.

You can see an early trailer of the game below.

Iron Sky: Invasion Demo Dogfights Moon-Nazis

By Jim Rossignol on December 19th, 2012.

Topware send word that there are Mac and PC demos for their game of the silly movie Iron Sky, Iron Sky: Invasion. They say: ““Iron Sky: Invasion” is a space fighter simulator, calling to mind such classics as the legendary… You-Know-Which series – further enhanced with strategy and RPG elements.” I honestly don’t know which, but a new space combat game is always welcome at the Monitor-Lit Underdark Of Rossignol Lair. Sadly though, I’ve yet to play the demo, because I am not currently in my creepy data-nexus man-cave, but instead on a crap laptop in John’s cheery dining room. But: “The players can access a tactical map of outer space to spot the positions of Nazi forces or any ongoing battles, and thus instantly know where to fly. The ultimate goal is to destroy the secret Nazi base hidden on the Dark Side of the Moon and to keep the Earth safe from the invading spacecraft.” Which sounds okay. It’s made my Reality Pump, too, who made not-terrible things in the past, if I recall correctly.

Planets Under Attack Looks Busy, Colourful

By Jim Rossignol on September 27th, 2012.

It's true that they're under attack.
Topware’s swarm-based tower defense variant, Planets Under Attack, looks sort of perfect. It sees various brightly coloured planets orbiting in off-kilter star systems, and unloading huge torrents of space-fleets each other. Vaguely reminiscent of Eufloria, I suppose, only where that was a subtle ambient tune, this is more like a gilded pop torrent.

Observe the trailer below.

We have the first first footage of Two Worlds 2 in-game cinematics, which I’ve posted below. It’s… well. It made me laugh, anyway. The trailer accompanies the teaser website, and check out horn-helmet’s shield. Man!

Unto Two Worlds II, Too

By Jim Rossignol on July 3rd, 2009.

First there was fantasy RPG Two Worlds and now there is two of it. Them. The announcement about the twoness of Two Worlds was made today, as TopWare Interactive and Reality Pump released this extraordinary sentence into the wild: ““Two Worlds II” presents a totally new gamer experience, one in which 2 years of intensive development has enabled quantum leaps in all spheres: completely overhauled AI and balancing standards, experienced authors, the active combat system and the brand-new engine all combine to provide an unforgettable experience where excitement, sheer enjoyment and graphics rule.”

Sheer enjoyment and graphics. Imagine that, if you can.

The game is set for a Winter 2009 release, and actually looks rather shiny.
