The Voorhees Legacy: Camp Keepalive Available For $5

Kevin Bacon died before I was born, which means there’s some sort of horrible Bacon zombie at the head of those dreadful conga lines. Like Johnny Depp after him, one of Kevin’s first feature film appearances was as the victim in a soon-to-be long-running horror franchise. They both die while lying on a bed and even though I’m more scared of Krueger, the removal of Bacon’s rind is far more disturbing. All of that is a bloody prologue to the meat of the post – splendid turn-based tactical puzzler Camp Keepalive, which is heavily inspired by Friday the 13th and other horror creations, is now available DRM-free for $5. There’s even a demo for Windows/Linux/Mac.

Leaving The Crystal Lake: Camp Keepalive Out Soon

Sometimes I chase references like Alice blundering after rabbits, which is how my mind led me from the recognisable spaces of tactical tale of terror Camp Keepalive to dreamy space pop. It’s a short trip, passing between two Crystal Lakes, one of which contains the shimmering plastic detritus of Grandaddy’s Sophtware Slump. The game itself has been relentlessly stalking in our general direction since February when I played the demo. The full version of the turn-based horror puzzler is out this Saturday, the 24th, and there are brief thoughts on the full version below.

This Thursday The 14th, Play Camp Keepalive

Valentine’s Day is the one with the pestilent patchwork bears and the twisted offerings of edible hearts, right? I’d have waited until tomorrow to post about Camp Keepalive, as it’d be a fitting game to share on Jason Voorhees’ birthday, but today’s macabre celebration of the vulnerability of the human pumping station is fitting as well.

Camp Keepalive is a turn-based strategy game set in a camp straight out of an 80′s horror movie. Save the helpless and dull-witted campers from an onslaught of monsters with a team of counsellors, each with a special power.

If that description didn’t herald a very fine game, I’d be grossly disappointed. Thankfully, Camp Keepalive is splendid. Video below.

Shelter Skelter: Sanctuary 17

Well that's what you get when you buy cheap batteries.

Wonder-blog IndieGames.com has posted a link to Sanctuary 17, a top-down browser shooter set in some dark, dank, robot-filled tunnels. Say what you like about gamers, we sure know where to have a good time. Sanctuary 17 sees you picking your way through this mysterious maze as an explorer for some last bastion of humanity, collecting equipment for yourself, repairing subsystems for the survivors back home and accessing terminals in a Marathon stylee to piece together the story. More excitingly, it’s also a bit spooky.
