Spring time has always been a bit of a double-edged sword for me. On one hand, there are flowers and refreshing breezes, and the sun smiles like in an old black-and-white cartoon, except with a chillingly sinister undertone because it’s kind of pissed about global warming these days. But, on the other, crippling allergies render me incapable of drawing breath. Fortunately, thanks to Indie Royale’s spring bundle, I can now take my mind off my sputtering, purple-faced death by partaking of a nice selection of indie games on the cheap. So that’s nice.

Wot I Think: Unstoppable Gorg
By Jim Rossignol on February 17th, 2012.

The other day I was having a chat with a gaming friend of mine, and we were talking about people’s interest in playing games that were basically unimaginative – Zynga stuff, that sort of thing – and we came to the conclusion that the people making those games couldn’t have much interest in actually exploring what was interesting about designing games. “You might as well make a tower defence game!” he laughed. I laughed too, but the ejection was hollow, because I adore tower defence games. I’m glad people make them. I changed the subject to talk about the giant owl that, until yesterday, had been eating cats in my village. Inwardly, though, the thought troubled me: is that what people think of tower defence?

But: Unstoppable Gorg Must Be Stopped
By Jim Rossignol on December 9th, 2011.

The chaps over at PCG spotted that there’s now a game-footage trailer out for Futuremark’s forthcoming tower-defence game, Unstoppable Gorg. The orbital pathing makes for an interesting uh spin (sorry) on the usual tower defence doings, but it’s nevertheless a bit of a shame that Futuremark’s next game wasn’t quite as ambitious as the ludicrous astronaut-shooter, Shattered Horizon. Unstoppable Gorg is due to land next year.

Futuremark Announce Unstoppable Gorg
By Jim Rossignol on July 19th, 2011.

Futuremark Games Studio have been teasing that they’re hard at work on three game titles. The first of these has now been announced, and it’s a 1950s sci-fi styled tower defence game called Unstoppable Gorg, in which the inhabitants of Planet X aim to take over the solar system and destroy humanity. FGS explain: “In Unstoppable Gorg you defend our solar system from the relentless march of a fearsome alien race by sending satellites into orbit around planets, moons and space stations. Unlike other tower defense style games, in Unstoppable Gorg you can move your satellites even after you have placed them.”
There’s a teaser trailer below, which is cute as pie, but game-footage free.
