Hands On Verdict: The Banner Saga

By RPS on December 16th, 2013.

The Banner Saga‘s first chapter is due out next month. It’s certainly much anticipated, coming from a team of ex-Biowares, and following a phenomenally successful Kickstarter. A tactical RPG, turn-based combat combined with a unique way of delivering its narrative, it’s going to be interesting to see how it suits people’s tastes. It certainly divided John and Adam, as they played through the first three or four hours of the game.

The RPS Verdict: Football Manager 2014

By RPS on October 30th, 2013.

FOOT-TO-BALL.

Adam already told you Wot He Thunk about Football Manager 2014, but foot-to-ball is a team sport. For the second half, he’s drafted fellow ball fancier Graham onto the pitch to discuss Sports Interactive’s latest old-guy-in-a-warm-coat simulator. Spoilers: it ends a draw.

Football puns out the way? Read on for the John Barnes rap, the ethics of pigeons, and the Speedball management mod for which we all hunger.

Graham: Finally a place where we can talk about football without being judged by the others.

Adam: They will be judging us from afar.

The RPS Verdict: The Wolf Among Us

By Alec Meer on October 15th, 2013.

Two Smiths and one Meer gather to discuss the latest episodic adventure game from Telltale (they of the recent Walking Dead series). The Wolf Among Us is based on the comic series Fables, and concerns folk from fairytales carving out a noirish life in the big city. It also concerns MURDER MOST HORRID. You should perhaps read Adam’s thoughts yesterday for a more fulsome summary, but moreso you should have played the game, for this here article is awash in the dreaded SPOILERS.

Are you sitting comfortably, or at least in a way that won’t cause you back problems in later life? Then we’ll begin.

By RPS on July 23rd, 2013.

Every day RPS is perplexingly bombarded with press releases for half-arsed Flash games aimed at some unknowable make-up-and-horses-loving audience. Hitman: Conversation

By Alec Meer on November 23rd, 2012.

worst hiding ever

In which Adam, who has played it all, and Alec, who has played around a third of it, gather to discuss IO Interactive’s divisive Hitman: Absolution. Devout Blood Money disciple Adam felt let down by this latest reinvention of Agent 47 – does Alec feel differently? (“No.”) They do find some positive things to say about it though, promise.

Alec: I’ve been playing some Absolution. It’s brilliant! Just kidding. It’s a nasty, grimy, uneven game.

Adam: I almost wish I had someone to debate it with, who did think it was brilliant. But I think I’d just say YOU’RE WRONG and we’d find little common ground. I have been pondering how much of my dislike does come from the ugliness of it – I don’t think it’s well designed on the whole but there are bright spots. I wonder if I’d feel more sympathetic toward those if they weren’t wrapped in grime.

Belial loves to be tickled on the chin

And it so it came to pass that the bickering collective of Walker, Smith, Rossignol and Meer all gathered in one place to discuss their recent oddysseys of violence in Blizzard’s latest offering, the electronic videogame known as Diablo III. Would this brave party come to embrace the high-speed demon-bothering or grumpily sneer at it from the back of the room? Follow me into the Cave Of Mysteries (level 1) to find out.

Verdict: To The Moon

By RPS on November 9th, 2011.

Come cry with me, come cry, come cry away.

As you may have noticed, we love To The Moon – a genuinely wonderful adventure game about memory, love and relational disorder. John’s going on about it caused Adam to play, and so we’ve sat down to have a chat about how it hit us. The discussion below contains spoilers right to the very end of the game, so we strongly encourage you to play it first. Which you should anyway.

John And Kieron Argue About Limbo

By John Walker on August 4th, 2011.

Kieron sneaking up on John.

Having played and reviewed Limbo yesterday, John found himself at the end of Kieron’s (particularly sweary) disagreement gun, and as is always the case the two of them argued about it. An argument that can only be shared with the world. Whose side are you on? FIGHT! (This contains significant spoilers, folks.)

OpFlash Red River: Our Verdict

By RPS on May 3rd, 2011.

Jim and Alec have been dipping their toes in the Red River. This second Operation Flashpoint from Codemasters’ internal studio once again returns to sprawling landscapes and manshooter action, but this time seems a little more refined. That said, critical responses to the game once again seem negative. Is that justified? Or is there some value in this desert manshoot? Read on for manshoot eludication.
