Hmm: Dark Millennium Online Details? No

By Jim Rossignol on October 13th, 2011.

Purple: it's a colour that means business.
UPDATE: THQ sent this statement to Massively:

It has come to THQ’s attention that some media are reporting that we’ve announced game details and a release date for our upcoming massively multiplayer online project, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online. At this time THQ has not officially announced a release date and any reported features are pure speculation. THQ will announce confirmed game features and an official release date at a later time.

Strategy Informer have posted a big old list of information about forthcoming Warhammer 40,000 MMO, Dark Millennium Online. I’m not sure where it’s derived from, since they do not quote a source (presumably everything they know so far from the limited previews and stuff) but presuming it’s genuine and accurate – and we are presuming – it contains a few interesting nuggets, which I’ve highlighted below. I think we were aware of a chunk of this stuff, but things like class details and so on have not previously been available to my brain.

Reaping The Benefits: Darksiders 2 Preview

By Quintin Smith on July 26th, 2011.

Their big front teeth are each the size of a human
Death, the second horseman (and hoarse man) of the Apocalypse is locked in battle with an enormous beetle. Deftly rolling out of the way of its charge attack with an agility never showcased by War in the first game, Death promptly delivers a series of all-business, blink-and-you’ll-miss-’em slashes with his scythe. And what should come tumbling out from the beetle? Viscous, nightshade-coloured ichor? No. Numbers. For Darksiders 2, Vigil are taking the first game’s paltry handful of RPG elements and pushing them as hard as they can.

Darksiders 2 E3 Trailer Is Pulp, Predictable

By Quintin Smith on June 3rd, 2011.

I AM BECOME DEATH, DESTROYER OF MEDIOCRITY

Jim posted this yesterday, assuming it was a leak and that it would be pulled down quickly. He was right on both counts, the smooth little genius, but now the same trailer’s been officially released and awaits you below. Seeing as this is a video of a video game you might possibly play down the line, in watching this trailer you are, essentially, gazing into your own future. You ever think of it like that?

This Man Is Not A Space Marine

By Alec Meer on October 12th, 2010.

This man is a Space Marine

The one beneath the cut, I mean. At least, I don’t think he is, but I’m prepared to be more open-minded. He is talking about Space Marines, however – specifically what it’s like to shoot dudes in Warhammer 40,000 Online, an MMO still keeping the vast majority of its cards against its heavily-armoured, subcutaneously reinforced chest. This producer interview from GamesCom has only just been released for some reason; while it’s lacking new footage it does provide more detail on how the thing plays.

Inquisition: Dark Millenium Online Interview

By Quintin Smith on August 23rd, 2010.

Seems these are the five classes that'll be available to the Imperium. Go! Go! Try and name them all!

I’m interested in Dark Millenium Online, the 40K MMORPG. I really am. I just wish Vigil Games would reveal more about it, so while I was at GamesCom I hatched a truly brilliant plan. Unfortunately my sock full of pennies and painstakingly sharpened Biro were taken off me at the door of their booth, so I settled for a straight interview with Executive Producer Tim Campbell. You can read it right after the jump.

There Will Be Space Marines In 40k MMO!

By Kieron Gillen on December 1st, 2009.

Now this is a surprise. Everyone was expecting the forthcoming Vigil 40K MMO to focus on the ever-commercial Zoat vs Jokero battles. But it seems that, at least in some small way, the game will feature the obscure “Space Marine” characters, as shown in the new gallery at Kotaku. As you’ll probably be unaware of, these are heavily-armoured genetically-modified space-fascists. It’s certainly a surprise that they’ll feature so prominently in an MMO – with the enormous development costs, you’d have suspected they’d have played it safer. Let’s hope the risk pays off.

Some less sarcastic commentary follows…

Rock, Paper, Warhammer

By Alec Meer on April 8th, 2008.

Oh dear, we have spent a lot of time talking about flashing pixel adaptations of Games Workshop stuff lately. It’s almost as if this site is run by four middle-class Englishmen. This time though, we’ll mostly defer to PC Gamer UK, who’ve dug up the first concrete factlets about the mysteeeeeerious Warhammer 40,000 MMO.

Notably, it’s definitely something World of Warcraftian – i.e. an RPG, not some crazy MMO FPS or RTS. Despite my glass-half-empty nature, I’m going to remain cheery, especially because it’s been proven that roleplaying in the 40K universe can fit right into whole Only War, giant army thing. Still, I can’t quite stop the nightmare visions of solo Space Marines grinding cyber-pigs in cyber-forests for cyber-gold. I’m quite sure it’ll be much braver than that, but lawks, I was so hoping for 40K-themed Planetside.
