Wot I Think: White Night

White Night [official site] is an eye-catching game and no mistake. I’ve been attracted to it since the first screenshots appeared but I always feared that the remarkable graphics might be a beautifully crafted shroud on top of a mouldy corpse. Not so. This is a slight but satisfying horror game built around a consistently impressive monochrome lighting technique.

Noir Survival Horror White Night Out Now

This is a lot less spooky if you just assume dark-and-hatted has been walking backwards.

Our Adam first turned black and white with excitement about White Night [official site] back in January. It’s the story of a standard behatted 30s gent who, after a car crash, finds himself exploring a deserted (OR IS IT?!) mansion in search of help. Puzzles to solve and a night to survive, think Resident Evil with ghosts and all the colour drained out. It’s immediately interesting just to look at, and it’s available now on Steam. White Heat: White Night Is Beautifully Unnerving

White Night is a ‘narrative survival horror’ game that I first learned about earlier today. Two minutes later, I was as excited for its release as I am for just about any other game coming out this year. Not coincidentally, two minutes is the length of the most seductive trailers I’ve seen for a long time. We missed the video’s debut in October but now that the light of our lanterns has fallen upon it, I urge you to watch it without further ado. Think Alone in the Shadows and Fog of German Expressionism.

Mods And Ends: Pick ‘N’ Mix

This week, a few mods that I’ve been monitoring but haven’t had a chance to have a proper go at yet. In some cases, that’s because they haven’t been released yet, in others it’s because the hours in every day are sadly limited, and as well as playing games and writing about them, I very occasionally sleep. I even venture outside from time to time, although admittedly not in the current political and meteorological climate. Too chilly. Too bitter. All too real. Onward to fantasy. Preferably with decent central heating.
