Lube Up: WRC 5 Is Coming This October

O the even hum of the speedy cars as they glide through the wilderness, through rain and shine. Rumbling, rumbling, so goes the announcement trailer for World Rally Championship 5 [official site]. And if you listen closely enough you may even hear them say: Carrrrrrrrr porrrrnnnnnn.

“Do you,” publishers Bigben ask, “Do you have what it takes to master the art of driving?”

WRC 5 Takes To The “Mythical” Roads Of Portugal

The first in-game video of WRC 5 [official site] promises to show us the “mythical roads of Portugal”. Sounds good to me. Rallying is my favourite type of real-world motorsport but I’ve always felt it could do with an injection of myth. Hoping to see coca rabicha racing through the dirt in pursuit of St George and his robo-rally-steed, I was slightly disappointed that WRC 5 doesn’t seem to contain any legendary creatures at all, region-specific or otherwise. Following close in the treadmarks of the announcement trailer, there’s a ‘time of day’ video, showing differences in lighting from dawn to dusk. How could the simple passage of time be rendered dramatic, you might well ask. How about adding the music from the final battle in a fantasy epic, as the trolls rage? Perhaps.

Black Bean Confirm WRC Date

It’s the 8th of October! There’s not been much choice out there for rally folks who wanted something other than Codemaster’s heavily coolified Dirt 2, so it’ll be interesting to see how Black Bean get on with the old fashioned tea-in-a-Thermos rallying licence of the WRC. Limited details and a brief trailer (is that poking some fun at Dirt 2?) are available over on the official site.
