Benchmark Your PC With Giant Cats And Dubstep

By Craig Pearson on January 16th, 2013.

STARING EYES.
The list of things cats can do: lick their genitals, preen, fight off bears, and benchmark your PC with dubstep. That last one is SO a thing. Remember those programs that would use pretty graphics and scenes of games that didn’t exist to test out how powerful your graphics card is? Well the best one ever has just come out. Allbenchmark’s Catzilla shows Godzilla-sized cats battling armies and each other. The video below is life changing.

Dungeon Machines: Legend Of Grimrock Editor

By Adam Smith on August 31st, 2012.

Yes indeed

I’ve only just found time to start playing Legend of Grimrock, despite awaiting it eagerly for months. Maybe I’ll manage to finish it before the release of the dungeon editor, although the latest post from Almost Human suggests not.

…we’ve reached internal beta! All the features and functionality is done, now all it needs is just a little bit of polishing and bug fixing and then we can unleash it into the wild. We’re getting close to the finish line, folks!

But will it be possible to create a step sequencer using the editor, turning dungeons into giant drum machines? If only a video could answer that question. If only that video was just below these words.

Rise And Shine: Tribes Ascend Release Date And Trailer

By Craig Pearson on March 9th, 2012.

If you're not crying by the end of the trailer, then the brief blast of Wub Wub is for you
If you’re already part of the Tribes: Ascend open beta, you might not realise that it’s not already out. That 3.8Gb on your hard-drive is nothing more than a game that is pretending to be out. The duplicitous, lying beast will soon be much more moral, though: following a successful beta, that’s had 400’000 players, Hi-Rez are launching, or at least de-betafying, their lovely online free-to-play FPS. Come April 12th, it’ll no longer be able to say “but I’m only a beta” when people point out the code holes the developers have left.

Defenestrate Windows 7: Windows 8 Preview Is Out

By Craig Pearson on March 1st, 2012.

wub wub 8
The best thing about Microsoft launching a new version of Windows is watching how they’ll awkwardly advertise it. The Windows 7 party videos might just be the most cringe-worthy thing they’ve ever done, and that’s saying something. So I’m a little disappointed with the launch of the free Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The video on the site is a rather awful, embarrassing attempt to ride the Wub Wub wave by layering dubstep over operating system videos. Incongruous, yes, but I doubt I’ll be linking to it when Windows 9 comes out. It’s just unmemorably awful.

Wub Wub Otherland Wub Wub

By Alec Meer on February 28th, 2012.

FInally! Chess 2.0 is here!

I suppose it’s a bit of a cultural death knell for an alternative dance music genre when middle-class geeks start ritually making vaguely inaccurate gags about it, and indeed when it suddenly finds its way onto every other game trailer. Dubstep – increasingly better known as Wub Wub – appears to be the go-to games marketing of 2012. Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2 have already staked their wubby claim, and now it’s the turn of Unreal 3-powered MMO Otherland. Spectacular environments, light-trees, big fat men, big fat women and ladyvoice-ehanced wub wub wub wub wub wub wub wub await.

Borderlands 2 Promises 96.5% More WUB WUB, Sept 18th

By John Walker on February 22nd, 2012.

This is how to sell games to RPS.

Start getting excited, because Rock, Paper, Shotgun will soon be releasing its trailer to celebrate the announcement of a release date for the reveal date for its next trailer! But in the meantime, why not enjoy the trailer released to announce the launch date for Borderlands 2? Which is the 18th September in the US, then after a long swim the 21st Sept in the UK/EU. Which is aaaaaages away.

Wait For The Drop: The Official Far Cry 3 Trailer Is Here

By Craig Pearson on February 15th, 2012.

WUB WUB!
This is the ‘official’ version of the Far Cry 3 trailer, which is almost exactly the same as the one that leaked earlier on today. I actually felt bad about linking to that one, but we’re all about disclosure here at RPS: whether you’re Ubisoft or John Walker, we’ll get to the heart of the story, no matter what. So, tell us Ubisoft: why did the leaked trailer have a Sept 6 release date when this one says Sept the 7th?
