New Red Alert 3 Trailer Actually Shows Game!

Key feature: killer whale units. Also, I quite like the idea of Jonathan Pryce congratulating me on anything I achieve in gaming.

  1. Bobsy says:

Pffft. I’d only play it with a mod to remove the gameplay.

  2. Pemptus says:

Oh my, look at all the colours! Skittles: the RTS would be a far cooler name btw.

  3. Bobsy says:

Or alternatively: use necromantic rites to replace Jonathon Pryce with Vincent Price. I’d totally play it then.

  4. Optimaximal says:

I’d say the Key Feature is more likely the Ice Ray, because those Killer Whales are actually dolphins, which were in Red Alert 2.

  5. Meat Circus says:

It looks joyous, and not even a tiny percentage of what I was expecting.

    Look at all the shiny.

  6. John Walker says:

I’m certain they’re not dolphins. They might be MEANT to be dolphins, but they’re killer whales.

  7. Flubb says:

Trying to get excited, but with CnC and Generals behind me, I’m not going to get overexcited.

Now if they did a proper Dune rts…

  8. Malagate says:

    Re: Dolphins or killer whales?
I can’t view the video at work, but when I get home and will examine it with my keen Marine Biologist certificated eye and try to give a definitive answer.
If they turn out to be porpoises or false killer whales I will be disappointed in you…

  9. diebroken says:

I’m only going to get back into Red Alert’s silliness if you can change the gamespeed.

Damn C&C 3 plays fast, or maybe my reactions are getting slower with age… :(

But seriously, is the console hardware running it slower and/or is the enemy AI dumbed down for gamepad-controller interaction? I’ve also heard that the frame rate can slow the game down (lol – try playing a Bullfrog game on today’s h/w)

P.S. – I prefer Red Alert 2’s Tanya (Kari Wuhrer) and Eva (Athena Massey) :P

  10. Pod says:

Why did the show gameplay footage?! I’m 400% more likely not to buy the game now.

  11. Myros says:

Ewww, I dont like the bright shiney city graphics … it’s like gaming in toyland.

re: killer whales – you realize they are from the dolphin family and are not in fact a ‘whale’ right? ;p

  12. Hoernchen says:

It’s going to be a very busty err interesting game, just look at these ginormous … dolphins !

  13. Malagate says:

@Myros, you do realise that all members of the Family Delphinidae are part of the sub-order Odontoceti? The sub-order which includes Sperm whales and Beaked whales, in fact every kind of toothed cetation.

Not that I think anyone was saying that killer whales are the same kind of whales as, say, baleen whales. They were just referring to a common name for the cetations they believed featured in the video. Killer Whale is an acceptable name, due to the fact that Orcas kill whales, hence the common name.

  14. Ketch says:

I can’t wait for this! I’ve preordered my collectors edition! I bought CE purely for the soundtrack CD with 3 versions of Hell March on it!

  15. diebroken says:

@Ketch : I think i’ll get it for the behind the scenes ‘Babes of Red Alert’ photcall first, and the game second! :P

  16. 18Rabbit says:

From the “Governed by D Cups” cut scenes to the “Taste the Rainbow” gameplay there’s not a chance in hell I’ll ever play this.

  17. Bema says:

The art direction they went with in-game is shite. Still…there aren’t too many other RTS’s im looking forward to, so this will have to do.

  18. diebroken says:

In reference to my earlier comment, I’ve just found this at: link to

“I have a ridiculously fast computer, why won’t C&C3 run faster than 30 fps?

C&C3’s frame-rate is tied to the game speed. You’ll notice that as your frames-per-second (fps) drops, the game slows down. This is contrary to the way most other games (especially First-Person-Shooters) behave. The framerate in C&C3 is capped at 30 frames per second because otherwise the game could run too fast to handle.

    Now if that’s not a console-based issue I don’t know what is…

All I have to do now is constrain my graphics performance to give me a strategic advantage (sigh).

Uh, how the hell is multi-player going to work then? What if the opponent has 30 frames while I have 10?

  20. diebroken says:

Dunno what it’ll do for multiplayer (hardly every do RTS-multi), but i’m guessing the server will slow the game down for everyone to match game speed – something akin to SupCom?

  21. Fire_Storm says:

    link to

US Government Wingnut boffins in inspired by Red Alert 3 tech shocker!

  22. Calabi says:

The colours they burn my eyes………….arrhggh!.

The gameplay doesnt seem to have evolved much, its the same old stand out in the open shooting stuff.

  23. EyeMessiah says:

I didn’t know that “loiter capabilities” were strategically desirable. There is a place in the army for me after all!

  24. Pheonix K says:

When this game comes out, someone should make a desktop theme around Jonathan Pryce and his congratulatory scenes. That’d make my computing time 1000% more awesome.

  25. Fumarole says:

Damn people. First you bitch about dark colors, now you bitch about bright colors…

    Gamers are a finicky lot.

  26. sockpuppetclock says:

…I live in Heidelberg, and it’s not exactly colorful.

  27. Radiant says:

You people have no joy in your hearts.
    This game looks delightful.

  28. feffrey says:

I was in the beta and played mostly 2×2 maps and never had any lag. I did not notice the game slowing down either though, so I am not sure how it dealt with lag.

What is also odd is that when I would host a game I did not have to open any ports.
I think that when you host a game, you are not actually hosting it, EA is, just you get to set the settings.
I don’t know if that is 100% correct but that is how it looked to me.

And yes, those are dolphins, now whales, as the build button says dolphins too. (and in RA2 it was dolphins as well.

  29. Cope says:

They should have used sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their heads.

  30. Calabi says:

That would never work, how would they push the buttons?

  31. Master Builder says:

0:51 – RATATATTATA BOOOM “woof woof” BANGBANG.

The cut scenes are great, but I’m bored with this type of RTS now.

    DOW 2 pleaaaaaaaaaase!

  32. RC-1290'Dreadnought' says:

The cutscenes will be on disc one, the actual game on disc three.

  33. RichPowers says:

Are they using the C&C Generals engine?

  34. Tackle says:

They’re just like Blizzard, too happy gfx, this is WoW Red Alert omg!

Anyways, the scenery made me think of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, when playing in the candyland setting

  35. Iain says:

I think I preferred this game when all you had to do was look at Gemma Atkinson’s cleavage.

  36. Mr_Day, Pioneer of Yawning Indignity of Man says:

Regardless of species classification, is it right that the allies use these whales?

    Against the Japanese?

Are you mad? They have been preparing for just that eventuality!

  37. Scundoo says:

Jonathan Pryce in charge of a Fisher Price army.

I would buy this just for the absurdly gaudy clip scenes (“all your base are belong to us” etc…) but the game itself looks like a barbie sim.

  38. Monk says:

The colours in this game reminds me of one of those not-so-old arcade games like Raiden. It also looks like Michael Bay had an influence on it.

  39. Bhazor says:

0:05. Come on admit it, you wouldn’t leave Gemma in charge of your toaster. Also, thats some british accent shes got there.

  40. MeestaNob! says:

Reminds me of the Christmas Wonderland tileset in Transport Tycoon Delux, but with RTS elements.

    Fisher Price 3, more like.
