It’s a trailer for a game in which men in masks shoot other men in masks! Actually, with a name like Blacklight: Tango Down, you might be forgiven for thinking it was some kind of dancing game set in a dodgy club. Perhaps it should have been. We’ll be able to tell soon, as we’re going to be taking a closer look at it before a release this summer. Clickwards for trailer.

“Tango down” immediately connotes Rainbow Six to me, particularly the older ones that were actual tactical shooters. This, unfortunately, does appear to not live up to that connotation. If it’s as generic as it looks (maybe it’s just a bad trailer, who knows?), we actually would have been better off with that dancing simulator.

Gener-o-shooter. Seriously.
Also, you can tell from the movement that its an Xbox game (slight moves, like flicking a control stick, rather than the usually herky-jerky rapid movement of mouselook). Dislike.

They boast “16 players online combat!” like it’s a selling point :s
All I saw was “No dedicated servers!”

If I remember right, the original Blacklight was a steaming pile of poo, hopefully this is better.

Are you sure you’re not thinking of Blacksite?

thanks for the correction, I’m now alot more optimistic..

The guys who broke off from the original Red Storm Entertainment formed a company but for the life of me I can’t remember what they were called but I remember the game they were working on was black “something”.
Help?

Black9?

Pretty sure its Blackfoot Studios? I remember the giddy anticipation for their game in the R6 community after everyone realized what a steaming pile R6: Vegas was. Havent heard much about them since though…

The video did not fit to narration at all. I saw clumsy and more to the point sterile shooting and the narration promised me madness of war. How can you get more un-human than that piece of crap. I’m afraid this one will follow its predecessors steps… But hey, maybe it’s all fun & great.

It looks like UT3 crossed with… uh, UT3.

Very hype-building shot, that one.
But really boring and pewpew childish video.

Needs:
more simulation,
more tactics,
slower heavier more human animations.
more maps
and of course
more choices

For a minute I hoped this might be about Black*watch*, the nefarious military types in the Prototype games. Would have been an interesting side project.

Ach doesn’t sound good from the front page.

Hmm… all I thought of when I saw this trailer was NeoTokyo (and how much better NeoTokyo looks compared to this).

Me too, or the old Nuclear Dawn.

That image at the top is weird; the models are vaguely of this generation, but the map they’re in seems straight out of the Unreal Tournament 1 school of map design.

This looks like a not-as-shit version of Neotokyo, or perhaps Call of Duty: futuro-guns. It might be interesting, if it doesn’t turn out to be a matchmaking console wankfest.
Also, that Blacklight joke is the first genuinely clever-funny pun I’ve seen on RPS. :P
18/04/2010 at 09:41 Kommissar Nicko says:
You know, I thought of Neotokyo when I saw the trailer too. I liked Neotokyo, but I didn’t like how boring it got. Maybe I’m alone in hoping that this might be somewhat like it, only with a lot more replay value.

Why is everything nowadays set in Russia?
Is it the new game fad?
18/04/2010 at 00:58 jti says:
Because Russia is alternative USA.
21/04/2010 at 18:33 KillahMate says:
Because all the studios making the games are from Russia. Or at least, that’s where everyone outsources.

this is the most startlingly original shooter trailer I have ever seen, ever!
18/04/2010 at 10:51 Cedge says:
What exactly do you think this game’s “predecessor” is, pray tell?
18/04/2010 at 10:54 Cedge says:
What exactly do you think this games “predecessors” are, exactly?
Anyways, some of the comments seem a bit harsh, for a $15 game…eh. I’ll give it a shot. I don’t need every game to be BFBC2.
18/04/2010 at 15:54 Cassette Kids says:
15? Okay, it all makes sense now.

Must be nice to have enough time on your hands to play second-rate games.
No, seriously. I remember those days. Oh, the halcyon days of youth…
