Portal 2: Parts 4 & 5

“Thermal Discouragement Beam.” “Pneumatic Diversity Vent.”

I’m going to propose that the sad cries of doomed turrets could be in the Top Ten Cutest Noises, Ever.

  1. The Army of None says:

    Yes Please!

  2. Meat Circus says:

    Poor turrets. :(

  3. Ian says:

    Poor turrets. :(

  4. Vanderdecken says:

    Love these so much.

  5. Wrestlevania says:

This is all looking rather wonderful, isn’t it? Really liking the “overrun” style of the levels too–most agreeable.

  6. the wiseass says:

I think these videos are spoilering too much, that’s why I stopped watching them after the first two.

  7. Henry Turner says:

I would like to like this game but I fear I am too stupid, and will just follow a walkthrough.

    /didn’t finish the first one

  8. Tei says:

The new style of Portal is fantastic good (and this is comming from the old one, that is already classic) but if this style serve a ulterior purpose, like linking Portal and Hal-Life worlds, then I am going to die of awesome.

    • Ian says:

It is now my purpose of the day to use “Die of awesome” in real life conversation.

    • littlewilly91 says:

Is already in the same universe as Half Life 2. Black Mesa and Aperture Science were competing companies. Check it out:

    • eclipse mattaru says:

In fact, you could see the Aperture logo in that boat or whatever that they found near the end of Episode 2. I’m not sure, but I seem to remember Eli Vance mentioning Aperture and all.

  9. John K. says:

    “Going to die of awesome?”

You just gave me my new catch phrase.
However I do agree with you, Portal 1 was awesome, Portal 2 is looking even more awesome, a tie-in with HL would be too much. I’d be hard pressed to find a reason to go to bed till I finished it.

    • The Dark One says:

Just make sure you don’t pass out and accidentally assume the party escort submission position.

    • John K. says:

Imagine finding out that Freeman is actually Chell’s grand-son and Glados created the combine.
I would happily assume that position and die of awesome. Ha!

    • littlewilly91 says:

      It’s tied in, but loosely:

  10. DXN says:

I have to somehow find the willpower to not watch these. :) It sounds like this is a game worth playing ‘fresh’, without hype and expectations.

  11. Blandford says:

“‘Passive Monitoring’ ensures objects in vent are identified, but never judged.”
Oh Valve, you always know how to cheer me up.

  12. whalleywhat says:

Enjoying the term “non-discriminatory entrance port.”

  13. Ovno says:

    I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!

And I love those turrets soooo much

  14. DMJ says:

I may be showing how small my killing gland is, but when I played Portal I never really thought “I wish I could focus a deadly beam of death upon the turrets”.

  15. itsallcrap says:

Hope there aren’t too many more of these videos.

I can’t help watching them, but at this rate I’m going to know how to solve all the puzzles before the game is even released.

  16. P7uen says:

Well I think that’s the point, giving everyone advance time to mull it over. Those extra elements people were saying might upset the purity of the original will be firmly ready to go in your brain.

    Clever chaps, them Valves.

  17. westyfield says:

    I love the diversity furnace.

  18. HDCrab says:

CONFIDENTIAL: if permission to look at this diagram has been granted, please do so now, unless the box labeled ‘DO NOT LOOK AT DIAGRAM’ on the ‘ Diagrams Forms Sanction’ form you should have recieved from your supervisor is checked, in which case you should remain at your workstation not looking at the diagram until such time as you are instructed by your supervisor to discontinue not looking at it.

    TURRET: thermally discouraged.

    I like Valve.

  19. anonymous17 says:

    ASCII Portal 2.

  20. Berzee says:

@DMJ — not death. Merely discouragement.

  21. Fuu says:

Why is the player not pulled into the vents (from about 40 seconds onwards)?

    • Vague-rant says:

Weight difference. Chell can pick up a turret so presumably its not that heavy, and the labs falling apart anyway so it can pull the tiles off the walls.

Also, ‘cos that would make problems in the game.
