Is This Spartan?

Hey, good work Kotaku. They’ve brought to light the unannounced project from Robot Entertainment, one of the splinter companies who formed when Age-of-Empires creators Ensemble disassembled. Pretty much all the details can be ascertained from the screenshot – strategy game with role-playing elements. Kotaku also say that their sources claim that the game draws a lot from Age of Empires. Unsurprisingly. We’ll be watching this one closely? Groundless speculation… Go! My bet? Free-To-Play strategy/RPG combo, basically doing Battlefield Heroes with the RTS.

  1. Rinox says:

Yes but will it be FREE FOREVER?!

  2. CMaster says:

So it will be like Ikarim/Evony/Etc/Etc but hopefully actually some good?

  3. LewieP says:

    I’m confused…

Microsoft’s logo on a PC game?

  4. Frankle says:

@Rinox. It has a windows logo on it so No it wont be free. Wish I was Wrong though. Most likely it will be like Bf. Heroes with game breaking dlc.

  5. ChaK_ says:

    please no F2P-CRAP thingy :(

A real spartan age of empire 4 and i’m sold

    I beg

  6. Xercies says:

I’m glad that ensemble are getting work still, but i hope its not some F2P MMO they should be working on more exciting things.

  7. Shadow Aspect says:

Guessing GFWL Arcade style, like the upcoming Blacklight Tango Down.

  8. yhancik says:

The actual game title really is Spartan Launcher, and it will be a mix between PS3’s PAIN and Ace Team’s Rock of Ages, set during the Peloponnesian War.

    • iainl says:

Ah, not just me, then. I thought it was like the various “throw a ball / animal / whatever as far as you can” webgames, but with a silly “THIS. IS. SPARTA!!!” twist of you kicking the guy off the launchpad.

  9. Derf says:

    I’d prefer AOE IV.

  10. Alexander Norris says:

    Games for Windows Live? Whoops.

  11. Psychopomp says:

Too bad you’ll never be able to get a good game, because GFWL has the worst matchmaking ever.

  12. Muzman says:

I saw the splash page as the title and was looking forward to “SPARTAN Launcher”; the hilarious physics web game. (promo quote: “Your Spartans will block out the sun”)

  13. Daniel Klein says:

So do we know how Battlefield Heroes is doing? I got into the beta, and then played a little after launch, but it basically felt like TF2 without any of the fun, and the unlock grind was horrible in that the unlockable weapons were so much better than what you were given at first. I quickly stopped playing.

Are they doing alright for playerbase? Are there many F2Ps that are?

  14. jerbear says:

Honestly I have been on the alpha of this but I have yet to play it since it’s always available when I am not :( Can’t really give any info due to NDA as well as…you know…not playing it :)
