Medal Of Honor + Linkin Park = Huh?

Run! They're starting!

Sure, while they’re all playing Starcraft II the rest of us have to find something to do. How about grumbling at a band? Did you even know Linkin Park were still going? It was only this afternoon that I was ranting at my poor, disinterested girlfriend that it’s a travesty that Linkin Park were ever so popular, while no one’s heard of Idiot Pilot. Silly singy/shouty pop plop. Well, apparently I’m completely out of the loop, as EA’s response to Modern Warfare, the relaunching of Medal Of Hono(u)r, is to feature Linkin Park’s new single, The Catalyst.

Well, now you want it, right? The single comes from their next album, A Thousand Suns, which is due out in September. The single comes out 2nd August, and it seems a trailer for Medal Of Honor will also appear that day, directed by the band’s turntabler Jo Hahn, accompanied by the full length version of the song. Then the song will appear in the game, due out 12th October.

So we can look forward to Medal Of Honor, a game we’re assured is being “developed in collaboration with U.S. Special Operations soldiers,” featuring pleas to know why “My life just so fucking hurts right now.” And perhaps as we watch the soldiers dying brutal deaths we’ll hear a screamed explanation for why his heart just really aches right now. Then a man will rap about how his feelings aren’t being recognised by either his girl or his friends.

So here’s the teaser for the trailer/single (I’ve watched it twice, and both times I managed not to notice the song – but then I’m old.)

And by way of an apology, here’s some Transplants:

  1. LewieP says:

Not their first foray into video gaming.

    link to

  2. heartlessgamer says:

Not sure the LP music fit that video.

  3. DrGonzo says:

Transplants as an apology? That’s more like a kick in the face.

    • BAReFOOt says:

You live in the wrong country. Here, WMG blocked their own video from me seeing it. LOL. It’s like they want themselves to die out. Badly. ^^

  4. dan says:

linkin park sucked 10 years ago and they suck now.

    • skalpadda says:

Linkin Park were around 10 years ago? Damn, I’m getting old :(

    • Bret says:

      We all are.

Well, maybe not the Doctor. Stupid the Doctor.

    • KilgoreTrout XL says:

Now they’re ripping off the beginning to Karma Police and, yes, still sucking. So hard.

    • Premium User Badge

      Hodge says:

He buzzes like a fridge, he’s like a detuned radio…

  5. Flameberge says:

Hmmm… There are many things I rely on John Walker for. Well, maybe not many; but several. Such as consistently writing the funniest section of a certain well-known UK PC games magazine, that isn’t shutting down in September. From this post I have learned taste in music is not one of the things that belongs on that list.

In other news, still not as odd a pairing as Dragon Age and Manson. This is the new shit indeed.

  6. Miko says:

That’s quite a departure for them. With the piano and tom rolls it sounds like it could be from the 70s.

The songwriting’s exactly the same as always, of course.

And the game.. looks like a semi-realistic military shooter, which means I’m exactly as interested in it as I am in finding out more about Spencer Pratt’s new shoe line. Fuck off, semi-realistic military shooters. I’d rather play a Linkin Park simulator.

  7. rancidfan says:

lol i never thought i’d see transplants on rock paper shotgun

  8. mlaskus says:

Bleh, this looks exactly like CoD. If EA wants MoH to be relevant again they should try to be original, not imitate what IW is doing.

    • coldwave says:

Last time they tried to be original it didn’t work( see MoH Airborne).

  9. Red Scharlach says:

It’s like they thought having Eminem in your “authentic” warfare shooter wasn’t embarrassing enough, so they decided to go for a poor man’s U2/NIN knock-off.

“We look like a pack of idiots. Our work is done.”

  10. jti says:

No, I don’t care. And with Linkin Park even less. How much less can I care? Not much.

  11. Web Cole says:

‘Today’s fight’ eh? I suppose you might even say its,

    *preemptive chuckle*

    …modern warfare?

  12. InsidiousBoot says:

I played the MoH beta for 1 hour and some minutes, I seriously gave it a try but it just plain sucked. BC2 is loads better, and its just sad.. I mean.. BF2 was way better ofcourse in general, well for its time. But seriously MoH sucks. Its even worse then MW2, and believe me when i say that i hate that game. Atleast MW2 had a good prequel.. Cod4. which was good when it first got released..

Meh.. kinda got bored with current fps. its fun sometimes with friends but otherwise? nah. Starcraft 2 should be in the mailbox tomorrow!

  13. ZIGS says:

Next they’ll announce System Shock 3, with the soundtrack being handled by BrokeNCYDE

    • OctaneHugo says:

    • Bindibadgi says:

STFU! DONT EVEN JINX SYSTEM SHOCK 3. I’d be happier never seeing it and that’s coming from a man who still sleeps with an SS2 disc under his pillow.

  14. abhishek says:

The trailer was going well until the vocals kicked in :| Well that and the same footage we’ve seen in about 10 trailers now.

No matter, the game sucks anyway.

  15. mR.Waffles says:

That’s so weird I love Idiot Pilot too.

  16. Helm says:

John Walker’s attempt at musical snobbery has failed.

  17. Jambe says:

Wow, both bits of music are absolutely terrible.

Game is still as meh-sounding as when it was first announced.

    • deanimate says:

Agreed. Though I’m not too sure the word music is even applicable

  18. TeeJay says:

For some classic “rock-rap-punk-fuck” how about:

The Clash – The Magnificent Seven (live / 1983)

  19. IvanHoeHo says:

I’ve actually enjoyed LP back in 02′-03′ or so, minus all the screaming bit. And then I (kinda) learned English and got sick of his whiny voice and never listened to them again.

The second MV’s even worse, though; phonetically and musically speaking.

  20. aerozol says:

    Yeah man, hardcore ‘punk’ video.
If I see an ‘alternative’ music video that makes sure only to put really good looking people in the shot, I know I’ve just been heavily ear-raped by the music industry. But hey, now you’re much cooler than the ‘mainstreamers’ who like LP, so congratulations!

    • Rich says:

People who like LP are not ‘mainstreamers’, they’re spotty teens from the late 90s.
I was there, I saw it, I know.

    • Rich says:

      Well, early 00s.

  21. RedFred says:

Have to say I despise Linkin Park. Always have, always will.

MOH:AA is probably my most played game to date though.

Not sure what all this means.

  22. Gassalasca says:

I was about to say that, surely, we all agree that Linkin Park are one of the worst bands in the history of music. But then I remembered Limp Bizkit and started contemplating which is worse…..

  23. Spacewalk says:

They should have just used Queensrÿche’s new album, it’s even worse than Linkin Park and it’s military-themed to boot.

  24. TeeJay says:

Come on people start posting some links to music that would make good / bad / funny alternatives…

    here’s another mash-up

DJ KHALED, AKON & TI “We Takin’ Over” vs. Medal of Honor Teaser Trailer
    link to
    (nb mute the MoH trailer)

  25. TeeJay says:

You Are A Pirate (Lazy Town) vs. Linkin Park / Medal of Honor Teaser Trailer (HD)

    • The Unbelievable Guy says:

Okay, one of the hoorays synced up perfectly with a man being strangled from behind. That cannot be a coincidence.

  26. TeeJay says:

Teletubbies Dance vs. Linkin Park / Medal of Honor Teaser Trailer
    link to

    • EthZee says:

Ah. I apologise, Alex, I thought no-one else had done this.

And yes, it syncs up perfectly. Always.

    • Shadrach says:

Ahaha, this made my day! The Tubedubber is nicer to watch though :)

  27. coldwave says:

I nominate Insane Clown Posse as next trailer ‘music’ for EA’s game.

  28. Hulk Handsome says:

It’s not often game blogs make me laugh out loud, but the paragraph towards the end sure did. Nice work.

  29. Kazang says:

    Transplants are fucking terrible.

  30. poop says:

  31. Alexander Norris says:

If the beta is anything to judge by, the game is going to be comically shit anyway. Linkin Park is also comically shit, so it’s a match made in heaven. Maybe it’ll serve as a warning to all people of good taste to avoid MoH.

  32. HawkesOfSavileRow says:

    My ears…..they bleed….TWICE! !

(I still love you john…..but please, never again.)

  33. Leelad says:

They may be a bit shit but that lead singer has some fucking voice for a tiny little chap.

    or what ever.

  34. aldo says:

It’s probably not a great time to advertise a game about an elite force in Afghanistan, when they’ve had a rather big leak about just how dodgy elite forces in Afghanistan have been.

    • alh_p says:

The US does not get news or current affairs, so that won’t be a problem.

  35. Irish Al says:

Ah, Linkin Park. Bunch of fucking preppies pointing at the ground and being all angsty. Oh Chester, isn’t live so very hard.

    • Derp says:

Not quite as hard as learning how to spell, it appears.

P.S. Linkin Park SUCKS, but asianguy actually had a surprisingly not-as-fail-as-you-might-expect solo/hip-hop album.
Did I mention that Linkin Park SUXXX? They suck.

    • Alexander Norris says:

If you feel the need to spell “sucks” with even a single X, I don’t think you’re in any position to be criticising other people’s spelling.

  36. mrrobsa says:

I think my enthusiasm for this game has gone down slightly every time they’ve released more info. I thought this was going to be more authentic and respectful than COD. Oh well. Might as well put in Quake sounds alongside Chester Bennington and Chums and be done with it. Oh and jetpacks.

  37. Easydog says:

It’d be horrible to die to Linkin Park. Those poor soldiers.

  38. Mr Lizard says:

I like this game. Not Medal of Honor, this other game.
    link to

  39. KilrBe3 says:

Ew, LP music does not fit Medal Of Honor. Plus another Ew for LP even putting their name together with Medal of Honor. Bad game is bad, and wont sale at all. Just like Airborne. DICE killed another series. Now they put LP name on it, /fail DICE

  40. Tauers says:

Linkin Park and Transplants in the same post = Tier1 torture technique

  41. Nick says:

didn’t they release the same album three times?

I almost saw them live once, but thankfully there were two halves to the venue so I was able to escape till the band I actually paid to see came on.

  42. Nick says:

And your apology makes me sad, terrible.

  43. EthZee says:

You people should be ashamed. We have got this many comments and not one person has done the obvious?

    This. This syncs up perfectly.

    • EthZee says:

Forgive me! It appears a man called Alex has done the deed up there. ^

If only I could commit seppuku! Or delete my comment, either is good.

  44. alh_p says:

    what is “tier 1”???

Is this some bizaro army talk like “squirters” -people wounded but not killed by an airstrike?

What’s worse, that they do this stuff for real or that “we” glorify it with peurile computer games?

  45. Grey_Ghost says:

Damn a lot of y’all are some pissy folks. I really don’t understand where all the Linkin Park hate comes from.

    • Starky says:

LK are just one of those bands that it was “cool to hate” in the early 00’s, and frankly RPS commentors are very, very snobbish about a great many things.
It is one of the things I like least about this community, the palpable sense of elitism. Sometimes warranted elitism granted – unlike some communities this one can converse in properly spelled words (mostly), have intelligent discussion on myriad topics, and usually side-step trolls and idiots.

The downside of a fairly savvy community as evidenced in this thread, offhand snobbery and dismissal of popular, and/or mainstream things.

    • Nick says:

Yup, definitly everyone hates them because its cool to do so, not because they are medicore trash. Certainly snobbery.

    • Starky says:

I’d agree with you that almost every song they’ve had played on the radio, or be in the charts is mediocre, but trash? No, I think that is going a bit too far. Still dig a little deeper and you find some hidden gems in their back catalogue.

Still, utterly subjective thing musical taste, one mans trash is another mans treasure and all that – I just don’t understand the need some people have to define themselves by their taste in music – and more so look down upon those who don’t share it, or those who like music they consider “lesser”.

    • Alexander Norris says:

No, it’s just that they’re shit.

    • HawkesOfSavileRow says:

Personally I think the teeny-angst-ridden-softrock-whatever- the-feck -lincon-park-is genre a stinky stain on our modern musical culture. This however, is my opinion, and not chiseled in gold plated monoliths scattered across the macroverse. Though it probably is.

  46. sockpuppetclock says:

When you said Transplants I thought you meant Amateur Transplants, which is much better.

  47. Starky says:

Linkin Park had a few very good songs, I can understand the hate, hell there is always a massive backlash of hate when a band becomes massive – which flips in 20-30 years when they become retro.

Most of the good songs though were not the shouty metal ones, but the slower, lyrical ones with Mike Shinoda rapping. Though a few of the shouty ones are good too, and the remix album is inspired.

Then again I recently re-discovered linkin park after a friend told me that I needed to listen to a album by Fort Minor (not knowing the linkin park link) and liked it.
The Track Kenji is utter poetry.

Still, far too much faux-snobbery going on in this thread – from people who probably only ever heard 1-2 Linkin Park songs (the mainstream hits) and dismiss them offhand.

The hate LK bandwagon ended years ago guys, it’s okay to get off it now, you need not like them but the snobbery is just sad.

    • Psychopomp says:

      Who says we’re bandwaggoning?

Nu-Metal is the worst genre known to man, rivaled only by Krunkcore

    • Starky says:

Dismissing an entire genre of music? That is even worse than band waggoning.

There are only 2 genre’s of music I near universally (almost) dislike, and that is Country and Western, and boy/girl group pop/ Yet one of my favourite songs is Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt, and have many songs by girl groups/boy bands in my collection that get played often.

Nu-metal is a stupid term, one that people love to bitch about, but really could you name more than 3 bands who may fit into that category?
Either the answer is no, or the answer is almost every vaguely rock/electronic band of the past 15 years because the definition of “nu-metal” is so broad to be utterly pointless.

Here is a Wiki-list ( link to ), are you seriously telling me that you find no songs from any of the bands listed there good, or even passable?
Personally I think some of the bands there have recorded some of the best music of this generation.

    • Psychopomp says:

      What if I said yes?

    • HawkesOfSavileRow says:

‘Personally I think some of the bands there have recorded some of the best music of this generation.’

Right, and that’s just fine. We’re not having a go at you – just stating our personal beliefs. (i.e. ‘LP are the epididymal cyst of music’) You shouldn’t take it personally.

  48. Dhatz says:

    LP is innoticeable band.

  49. Diogo Ribeiro says:

    Oh look, some cover.
