Oh, We Are Getting A Crysis 2 MP Demo

According to this tweet, CryTek are going to bring out a “pre-launch” multiplayer demo for Crysis 2 on PC, despite prior news to the contrary. That’s good! What is it good? Well, take a look at this multiplayer trailer. That is why it is good. (Also that screenshot is good, right? What is that thing?)

  1. SprintJack says:

    Good news!

    • Mattressi says:

      What is it good?

    • BathroomCitizen says:

Well, take a look at this multiplayer trailer. That is why it is good.

    • dsi1 says:

@Mattressi: It is very enjoyable on the 360, barring a few issues such as low framerates in certain situations (cloaking effect + water world effect + water screen effect = low FPS), and CONSOLE CONTROLS.

Both of which are fixed by adjustable graphics/more processing power and KB&M.

  2. Corrupt_Tiki says:

Alas I do not own a super computer, so I will probably never play this, Although idk about the Crysis name anymore, I own #1 but idk about the others.

Anyways, I just bought IL-2 Sturmovik, DCS Black Shark, DCS A-10C and a Saitek x52 joystick so I think I am set for a little while.

(Well when I finally get my joystick, IL-2 is nigh on unplayable on Realistic mode with keyboard+mouse)

    • jon_hill987 says:

If it runs on an XBox 360 it should run on a £400 Dell PC.

    • Corrupt_Tiki says:

Hmm, I ‘spose, I might get it when it’s cheap or something :)

    • Tuskin38 says:

If you can Run Crysis 1 you can run Crysis 2, crytek has stated the Cry Engine 3 runs better then the second.
and John_hill, the 360 version was probably running on a lower quality version of the game.

    • Sweedums says:

perhaps the pc version scales to the point of it looking like the 360 version?

      *shudders at the thought*

  3. l0z says:

Slightly off-topic here: The Xbox360 demo is really quite poor both in terms of gameplay and graphics. Crytek have been crowing about how well their latest engine runs on consoles for some time, but from the looks of the demo it is massively inferior to (for example) Unreal Engine.

    • Henke says:

I had a lot of fun with the MP demo for 360, and I usually don’t like MP. Got all the way to lvl 7. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the way it looks.

    • Hatsworth says:

Wait, lvl 7? As in levelling up in a multiplayer fps? No thanks…

  4. mondomau says:

    What is it good?

    It was is good!

Really, now I don’t have to piss around with a trial xbox gold membership to play this.

  5. Novack says:

Ha-ha, this dudes are always the same…

No PC for Crytek anymore! it is hell! they’re pirats, they’re cheap!

Past three seconds, they release a new Crysis title for PC. Maybe even PC Exclusive.

  6. Kilrathi says:

    What even is that thing?

  7. Javier-de-Ass says:

    meh, console crap

  8. Ricc says:

Sweet, I’ll have me one of those. Although, a SP demo would have been better. ;)

  9. MikoSquiz says:

The last good game with “Cry” in the title was seven years ago. I’m not holding my breath.

    • loshon says:

Mmm, I thought Far Cry 2 was pretty enjoyable if you went into it expecting to trudge for days, although I suppose that doesn’t really count.

Crysis: Wars was one of the best multiplayer experiences of 2008/9 in my opinion, and Crysis 1 remains one of my favorite games of all time.

      But that’s just me.

  10. rei says:

Does this game even have a single player campaign? They keep going on about MP which I have zero interest in, but I’ve seen no mention of SP. Then again I mostly loved the first game for the tropical holiday vibe so I’m not sure I’d care about this whole urban thing either way.

  11. bit_crusherrr says:

Shame the games been consolised. If It doesn’t have power struggle I aint buying it.

  12. HermitUK says:

The 360 demo is quite good fun, though it’s basically Call of Duty with nanosuits. Perks, rankings, unlockable attachments, killstreaks and an overpowered melee attack are all present.

Ran in to some amusing bugs, too, so hopefully a PC demo will help them sort out a few of the inevitable technical bugbears before release.

  13. Radiant says:

    200+ Dog tags?

    Fuck yeah!

  14. dripgrind says:

That thing is a pod you have to capture in the “Capture The Pod”* game type. The pods always blow up after a while, so I don’t know why standing near them is so all-important. Maybe the tie-in novel will explain.

The 360 demo is fun, although it seems like running up to people while you are stealthed and then hitting them is usually the best plan.

    *name may not be accurate

  15. My2CENTS says:

Nice idea, just to test how good it will run on my pc.

  16. Brumisator says:

    Is that… a headcrab rocket?

    • KindredPhantom says:

That would actually make a great game, zombified super soldiers versus gordon freeman, who would win? One way to find out FIGHT!

  17. green_genes says:

At least they aren’t calling it a “Beta”

  18. msarge says:

I tried the MP Demo on my 360 and was bored to tears. If you are tired of COD style multiplayer, then I wouldn’t bother with Crysis 2 multiplayer. Being able to go stealth or turn on power armor doesn’t add enough to warrant buying this game.

Although I did only play one round.

  19. Unknown Pokemon says:

  20. Diziet Sma says:

It’s pretty damn nice on the 360 so it should be awesome with proper controls. Never played the first one and I’m starting to get the impression I missed out on something quite special. Should I pick it up cheap oh RPS?

    • Diziet Sma says:

Short and to the point. :D I shall keep an eye out for a suitably priced one I can purchase with paypal funds.

    • Tatourmi says:

Well you know, play it to make yourself an opinion on one of the most discussed videogames of the past years, but don’t think everybody found it enjoyable. To some, like me (God, I am spotted), it was one of the most tasteless FPS’s of his time and only got one commercial argument: GO ON AND TEST YOUR PC WITH BEAUTIFUL GAME. Don’t spend too much money as it could turn out to be one more of your pop-corn games.

    • Diziet Sma says:

Popcorn game is fair enough. I have played it briefly before but that was more “Shit can my PC really run this?”, which it could… now it definitely can. If I can mooch a copy for 5quid I’d say that’s an excellent price for a popcorn game. Which is a category that I pretty much put any first person shooter into.

    • AlexW says:

It’s only ‘tasteless’ if you didn’t experiment with the variety while playing at Delta difficulty. It becomes a tense game of cat-and-mouse where you can keep picking off the stragglers in inventive ways but don’t have the energy to take on all of them in a running gunfight. Even the alien levels are good fun in a test-your-mettle way if you’re not too blinkered to accept that you’ll be switching up your weapons to the shotgun and unsilenced FY71 (which is then traded for the Gauss Rifle as soon as you can, since it takes out the big ones almost instantly). It’s certainly a better action romp than your Cods and your Mohs.

      Nuff said.

    • Collic says:

Crysis is great until the aliens show up, which is a fair chunk of the game. Its very similar to the first Far Cry in that respect (great until it went all Dr. Moreau and turned into a linear corridor pounder.)

Definitely worth playing at least once.

    • Dominic White says:

Anyone who says that Far Cry turned into a linear corridor shooter didn’t play for more than half an hour after the Trigens are introduced. The biggest, most freeform levels in the game are after that point, including Rebellion, which is one of the biggest and most replayable FPS levels I’ve ever seen.

    • Collic says:

It’s quite possible I didn’t at the time. Perhaps I need to revisit Far Cry at some point. I stand by what I said about Crysis, though. The best fun to be had for me at least was before the aliens landed and it got increasingly scripted.

Still, a lot do say that about Far Cry which probably goes to show how many must have been put off by the game when the trigens appeared.

    • dskzero says:

I don’t know why people keep saying the game is great until the aliens show up. The frozen levels are awesome despite Prophet annoying you, and the jeep escape is really cool. The final boss could have been a bit more exciting, but as a whole the game really pays off. It’s a bit short like all FPS these days, but it’s an awesome effort. Also great graphics, of course, and the atmosphere is there. Warhead, on the other hand, wasn’t that much exciting for me, though some parts of the game, and the final level were incredible.

I certainly recommend it and I look forward to the new game, despite being scared to death that the game will suck thanks to console considerations.

    • Collic says:

Oh, don’t misunderstand me, the game doesn’t suddenly become awful when the aliens show up, but it does get a lot more linear, especially so in some sections. Conversely, before that it’s just you approaching your objectives however you wish as you roam over a huge landscape.

I just enjoyed that part of Crysis far, far more. The part prior to the aliens feels like a very different game, and one I got a lot more enjoyment out of.

  21. aeromorte says:

ahhh snap! well if it comes … or when … no more like if … im gonna check it out

  22. Snuffy the Evil says:

The 360 demo is good, but I have a few issues with it.

    1. One-hit-kill punches. It doesn’t feel quite right.

    2. Very little color. The map has plenty of green in it, but due to some saturation filter it feels drab.

    3. Crazy lag issues, but that’s probably because the demo isn’t as popular as, say, CODBLOPS, so there are probably only a few players within a good distance from me.

  23. SpaceAkers says:

I played the demo on the 360.

    It was lousy.

It was almost exactly like Call of Duty except that you can turn sort of invisible or put on some super armor.

I saw leveling up mechanics and kill streak stuff and I sighed….

The guns didn’t feel very good either, they didn’t have that meaty-good feeling when you shoot some1.

I saw nothing new or interesting going on…

Multiplayer wise, I do not think this is anything worth getting excited about. You’re probably better off playing CODBLOPS.

  24. robitii says:

I’m glad we are not forgotten :D

Why is EVERYONE using Invaders Must Die in their trailers?
