Section 8’s Infographical Boasting

I love it when people do stuff like this. In order to celebrate the first eleven weeks (because that’s a nice round number?) of man-death in their downloadable jetpackathon, Section 8: Prejudice, TimeGate have compiled an infographic of their stats pulled from Gamespy. It’s totally disposable, and pure marketing guff, but kind of fun in a “it only took twenty million-man hours to build the Panama Canal and that’s how much time we sink into Windows Minesweeper every day” sort of way. We should totally do an RPS infographic: “57,123,119 Angry Men Angered in the first six months…”

Check it out below.

I’d love an infographic on how many misspellings there are in every RPS comment ever (there are two in this, according to chrome :V)

    • Coins says:

Because a few misspelled words will totally riun your world.

    • Daiv says:

      They ruin my wolrd.

    • Teddy Leach says:

It’s practically my job to take the piss out of spelling mistakes.

    • Batolemaeus says:

Oh please, leave being a spelling nazi to people who have more experience in the field.
      Liek me.

    • lurkalisk says:

I’ll never understand the terms “grammar Nazi” or “spelling Nazi”. The more belligerent and unpleasant party would be those that get up in arms whenever said Nazis utter a word.

    • D3xter says:

    • lurkalisk says:

That actually took me awhile. But yes, anyone that might lash out in such a manner is clearly a skeezoid. It just seems that assy grammar people are rare compared to the people sitting in wait for a grammar nazi’s throat to jump down*.

  3. mkultra says:

I want to know how many times the auto-aim button was used in that 11 weeks.

    • Gnoupi says:

I would say around 150000000 times (3 times as much as kills).
It’s a nice tactical tool to execute a target you catch by surprise. (Not much use for my pulse cannon/rocket launcher build, though, besides securing a long range rocket on a turret)

  4. Gnoupi says:

The pulse cannon is underestimated, obviously.

I have a lot of kills with it, though. It suits nicely people who want a nice splash damage weapon (like a Q3 rocket launcher, with charging shots).

    • aethereal says:

Personally, I use the pulse cannon heavily, but I dont get many kills with it. I find that it works great as an opener, to eliminate their shields while you are jetpacking, followed by a switch to AR and activating the lock-on to finish them off (or a napalm nade if lockon is still recharging)
Its a fantastic weapon, yet I kill much more with the generic AR.

  5. abhishek says:

No one plays this game anymore right?

    • phertiker says:

Right, except for the people that still play it.

    • FakeAssName says:

sadly that’s not many (I’m one of them).

    • ArtVandelay says:

It’s true there are many players left. That’s why you need to start playing it.

  6. phertiker says:

I love this game, and I love silly infographics. Win/win, baby!

  7. Retribution says:

Too bad the game is dead

    • Teddy Leach says:

Funny, it wasn’t when I played it last night. Or earlier.

    • Retribution says:

So how active is it? I remember seeing some GFWL top-ten list and Section 8 was at the very bottom, with Chaos Rising being number 2; I know for a fact that the CR community is down to 500-800 (usually), so where does that leave S8?

    • Herzog says:

      Here have a look:link to

I have stopped playing a month ago, because I got a bit tired of the 4 maps and I didnt want to buy the DLC over GFWL. In the evening there were one or two populated servers. Dont know about the current state!

  8. Alexander Norris says:

    Seven-three-comma-one-eight-six VIP’s what?

What kind of a name is seven-three-comma-one-eight-six, anyway?

  9. Rii says:

    This is news? Seriously?

    • Teddy Leach says:

You’re right, let’s talk about the News of the World exploding.

    • Jim Rossignol says:

No, it’s pure marketing guff, but since this is my website, I can post what I like. Hooray!

    • Rii says:

Stats can be interesting, but these aren’t. Most of them are just pointless numbers.

    • Daiv says:

I don’t know, I found the stats on how far players have dropped in total to be interesting. Something in me wants to calculate the constant velocity a single player would need to maintain to fall in ms^-1 to reach that distance in 11 weeks, then work out the constant acceleration required for a player to start at rest and have fallen that distance after 11 weeks…

    • Untitled says:

      1 Angry man angered

    • Flaringo says:

theres always statistics in news, that makes this legit

  10. metalangel says:

What’s the stat for ‘number of players on 360 who just Rambo around while their teammates never manage to successfully hack anything as they need some backup, dammit’.

    I have a feeling it’s rather high :(

  11. GreatUncleBaal says:

A fun game that could do with a healthier population of regulars – I picked it up a few weeks ago and while I had some good matches, there was only ever one fully populated server at peak times that I could find. Steam did its trick of asking that I re-download the entire game when it was patched a while ago and I didn’t bother, but I keep meaning to re-install and give it another bash.

  12. choconutjoe says:

I love this game. I just wish there were more players. The servers are a bit sparse most of the time :(

    • PoulWrist says:

Yea, I bought it the other day. Wonder where all that action is taking place… could only find 2 games that were mostly bots. Least it was cheap.

  13. Lord_Mordja says:

Oh hello that game I cannot play multiplayer despite putting inordinate amounts of time into getting that stupid fucking program to work.

    I hate GFWL.

  14. Flameberge says:

I played this a lot, then Frozen Synapse came in to my life, with its loving top-down blueprint-o-vision embrace and took over my gaming time. I’m still yet to win, because I am rubbish, but I do love it.

    • Barnaby says:

A friend just gifted Frozen Synapse to me and I’m looking forward to trying it out.

I actually didn’t buy this game because of GamesForWindowsLive. Having just dealt with GFWL while trying to play Dead Rising 2 co-op I can’t say I regret the decision.

I think people’s comments about the sparse servers present a good reason for indie/budget multiplayer games with a high chance of dying quickly to include a strong co-op mode. Maybe there won’t be 20-32 players to fill up a server but at least I can have fun with a friend or two. Playing through that Transformers game coop with a buddy right now and it’s been pretty fun so far. Co-op ftw.

    • FakeAssName says:

the story mode to this is pure training wheels / fluff.

it’s a online only type of game in the vein of unreal tournament.

  15. the.celt says:

What I’d like to see from Section 8 is:
Steam sale. A price like $3.50 or so. A big bold mention that it *includes* all DLC. An email sent out to all previous owners of the game telling them that it’s now very cheap on Steam with all DLC included.
The Steam sale should clearly point all these things out, especially that an email is being sent out. Then, I’d buy because it’s cheap and I’d know that not only would older, jaded players be poking their heads back in, but that other people like me would now take the risk and choose to commit.
I think this would start the fire that’s needed and would only ultimately be win/win in economic terms for the company.

  16. KirkDiggler says:

    Hooray! Data Visualizations.

You might be an asshat if you complain about Infographics

    Just Sayin

  17. ArcaneSaint says:

Quinns hasn’t even been gone for a week and see how low this site has sunk.

Serious now. If only the infograph also displayed the total amount of hours played and compared that to the big number on the bottom to see whether it’d be possible that all combinations have already been used. Though from what I hear there isn’t that much player activity, so that number might have just been too depressing to put on the infograph.

  18. FakeAssName says:

now all they need is the stats on the number of times people have asked for mod tools.

  19. FRIENDLYUNIT says:

Yes, that’s right. Clearly it is…. HOWEVER I don’t really think they have the right to imply that Section 8: Prejudice is either not a game OR defending humanity.

  20. MadMatty says:

I´d thought i´d use this opportunity to brag about the 40,000 Counterstrike kills i had registered on Clanbase around year 2000. Less than in some games, but if you die, you gotta wait ´till next round.
