Be Vindicated With A Euro Vindictus Beta Key

A polar bear is never your friend.

We’re very good at giving you things. For instance, today, we’d like to give out 2,000 closed beta keys for the Euro launch of Vindictus. But with there being at least 2,001 RPS readers, you’ll need to be quick. If you head below the jump you can find details for how you can get your very own key.

Vindictus’s beta is due to come alive in Europe next Thursday (15th Sept) for five days, so if you bagsy yourself one of the keys you’ll be able to enter it into this site just as soon as the site bursts into life that morning. It’s important to note that if you want a key, you need to be logged in to RPS (which you can do here). When you click on the link below, if you’re logged in, you will be automagically assigned a key. So don’t click if you don’t want one, folks. But if you do, do. (I said “do do”.)

Click here to receive your Vindictus key.

If they’ve run out before you click, you’ll get a message telling you the bad news. Have a little cry, then move on.

  1. iGark says:

We Americans already have this game, right?

    • John Walker says:

Indeed. As I say, it’s the European beta. I’ve updated the story to make that more clear.

    • Askeladd says:

Why is there a beta again? I tried this out with a friend. We played via proxy on the US servers, but we stopped because of ocean.
I hope he gets home fast so he has a chance to get a beta key too :)

    • Noc says:

Damnit, Askeladd, how many times do we have to tell you? There are no oceans on the internet.

The latency you were experiencing was entirely due to misguided and outdated business practices that insist on charging Europeans more time for the same data packets.

    • Askeladd says:

Yeah sorry my bad, I know – they consist of tubes.

    • icupnimpn2 says:

European beta is kinda like American beta but has more sex and cigarettes, right? Just soes I understand.

  2. RiptoR says:

Why thank you very much, oh godly RPS collective!

  3. pupsikaso says:

What? Vindictus is in beta?? I’ve been playing a beta for the past year or so?

    • Teddy Leach says:

      First comment.

    • johnpeat says:

When you went to school (you did go – yes? you may STILL be going??) there were these pictures on the wall with coloured shapes on a blue background…

They’re called ‘maps’ and they show ‘countries’ other than the one you live in (which, I’m guessing, is the overweight one to the top-left??

Some people live in those ‘countries’ and, sometimes, things aren’t available in those places which ARE available in your place…

    • Askeladd says:

Oh don’t bash him I think I understand how he meant it. Sarcastic/annoyed at the fact that the game he plays comes half a year later to europe and gets the beta status again.

  4. ReV_VAdAUL says:

Much obliged RPS, have been quite keenly following this game.

  5. johnpeat says:

People who registered ‘way back when’ should already have a key – I got mine last week (tho the CB isn’t open until Thurs?)

Check your SPAM folder before you waste one of these…

  6. Jarenth says:

Well, as I have never heard of this game before, I appreciate this opportunity. Let’s see if it’s any fun.

  7. 4026 says:

Okay, so it’s this game, right?

Vindictus is a hack and slash MMORPG created by devCAT, an internal studio of Korean free-to-play game publisher Nexon. […]

Vindictus follows Nexon’s traditional free-to-play model. The game itself is free to download and play and charged no purchase price. The game contains a virtual item shop to purchase in-game items through Nexon points to enhance the player’s character’s appearance, abilities or to revive a player.

Funny, my first guess (from the article pic) was that it was yet another DotA-like.

Interesting fact: This game’s been out in Korea since January 2010, and out in the States since October of that year. Why’s it taken so long to get here?

Forgive me if I’m just spraying out info that everyone already knows, and questions that have already been answered, but there’s not a lot of explanation in the article…

EDIT: Right, yes, if I’d been paying attention, I’d have seen this article a few days back, which has more info in it. Sorry, everyone.

    • Askeladd says:

Some guy told me here on RPS the reason why Europe gets games later is because we are a less forgiving market then the US consumers. They are smart.
I guess they made sure their business model is ready for our market.

  8. Sheng-ji says:

Hurrah, Thank-you! I saw a let’s play of this and it looked awesome!

  9. Elbo says:

    Cool, thanks.
This nudged me to finally register btw. Not that it matters, but still. Might be of interest to the board of directors (i.e. moar free stuff!).

  10. apocraphyn says:

    Many thanks, magnanimous ones.

  11. Chizu says:

    Got a key. Thanks.

Proxied into the US beta way back when it started was suitably impressed, but teh lag from proxying made me give up and wait for an EU one.

    Regional restrictions.
    I hate them :v
Even more when all of my online gaming friends are in the US.
    So how does that work.

    • Askeladd says:

This game need a good ping to play. I don’t know if beeing able to play on US servers would make you really happy on the long term.

    • zergrush says:

Their servers only host the “hubs”, the game sessions are hosted by whoever gets the quest, so you can play solo perfectly a proxy.

    • Chizu says:

Via proxy everyone connected with really high ping, which I know won’t happen normally, but running through a proxy was all over the place.

@Askeladd I play on US servers and they play on UK servers with me in various games all the time. And we always got by fine. Its just the need for the proxy that then slows everything down to the point where it became unpleasant to play.

Fortunately, most other things I don’t need to worry about that and we can just play.

but yes, you can Solo perfectly via proxy, but I’d got bored of solo’ing in the beta and wanted to play with friends :V

    • LionsPhil says:

Even more when all of my online gaming friends are in the US.

This just reminds me how much like that ChampsOnline doesn’t do any continental borders.

Turns out the pipes are good enough for anything short of CounterStrike these days.

  12. aircool says:

    Ooh-la-lah. Cheers chaps.

  13. Joe Deadman says:

    Thanks for the key guys.

Looking forward to finally being able to try this out.

  14. LozTaylor says:

    Thanks RPS. Thrps.

  15. caddyB says:

Thanks loads RPS chums. You’re a nice collection of cogs there, Omnissiah be praised.

  16. Lobotomist says:

    Cool ! Thanks RPS

  17. Tams80 says:

I don’t have the system requirements, so I shall not waste a key.

  18. zergrush says:

    Thanks for the key =)

It’s a shame nexon makes it a point to region lock every fucking game, and that’s specially retarded in Vindictus’ case because the dungeons are peer to peer, distance from the servers has absolutely no meaning on the in-game delay =/

  19. fresquito says:

Thanks for the key. I was looking forward to try this.

… like ayear ago. Well, better late than never, they say.

  20. Uglycat says:

Please persuade the Path of Exile peeps to do a beta on here as well pls :P

  21. mondomau says:

Thanks guys! I tried to play this last year with some region switching shenanigans but it was more trouble than it was worth. This will do nicely.

  22. Williz says:

Well I guess this got me to finally sign up for the Comments section. Long time reader, not so long forums poster.
Looking forward to actuallyplaying this as it seemed like an MMO Demons Souls-esque game which piques my interest as I got rid of my PS3.

  23. kickme22 says:

as i am in the US of A and am too cheap to actually buy this game, lets hope this beta key works

    • Dominic White says:

It’s an F2P game, you tool. And already free in America, and has been for the past year

  24. King Toko says:

I got a beta key but I’m going to try the American version soon to see if theres any point waiting for the game. My answer probably not but you never know.

  25. pupsikaso says:

Oh, it’s for Euro. Sorry, clicked the link accidentally without reading. Here’s my key for anyone:

  26. Bosscelot says:

Got a key. Cheers RPS! :)

  27. Dominic White says:

Funny how Nexon straight-up refused to talk to RPS when people most wanted to find out things from them, but now they’re throwing around beta keys like confetti.

Anyway, depending on where you’ve looked, you might have seen Vindictus billed as an MMORPG.

It is neither an MMO, nor an RPG. This is a good thing.

It’s a 4-player cooperative brawler (think Final Fight first, Devil May Cry second, Monster Hunter a distant third) with a persistently levelling character. You punch things, throw enemies into walls (or other enemies), smack people around and do it all over again. It’s great fun if you like things all bifftacular, but if you’re expecting a deep and tactical experience, or a well-written RPG yarn, you’re going to be very confused and disappointed.

The EU is also getting the Xtreme Edition of the game, previously Korean-only. It adds a few new gameplay elements, like jumping, launcher attacks and air combos, which were all conspicuously absent from the US version.

Here’s some gameplay footage of the Korean XE version:

  28. sparkster says:

yeah i really want to try this game hope some of my firend get a betakey too

  29. neoghoul says:

Oooh, I like a nice hacking and slashing once in a while. If the opportunity is given by RPS , it’s the more appriciated!
    @ Dominic White:
Final Fight you say…. I have to inform a friend of mine; as he always lies in wait for good coop-brawlers similar to FF.
    Thank you, RPS!

  30. trigger_rant says:

Thanks guys. Looking forward to this.

  31. AshEnke says:

“We’re sorry, your beta key is invalid!”

    You’re mean, RPS.

    • Sheza says:

Impossible, the beta key redemption hasn’t started yet so the key can’t be invalid.

NEXON Europe are going to doom this game into another fiery pit of bugs and poor customer service.

      You have been warned.

    • Dominic White says:

How could the game even be buggy? They’ve already had it released in America for a full year – the game is already beyond beta testing by a mile. The only purpose for the EU test is to check that the servers don’t burst into flames.

The actual gameplay is all peer-to-peer, anyway, with the server only getting involved to dole out loot.

    • Sheza says:

Because this isn’t the exact same game. It’s the XE version (enhanced combat among other perks), which whilst existing in Korea, has never been transformed into the western market before. Also, take Combat Arms for example. Tons of bugs in a new patch, America gets it fixed in two days, we take over a month. Don’t forget the F2P model means loads of patches, and patches that are not made for the American version.

You seriously underestimate how terrible Nexon EU are. As a veteran customer I have been through some tough crap with them, in fact I played a big part in the sacking of two game staff.

Trust me it’s so much more than servers.

    • Mr E Meats says:

Maplestory and Vindictus get support in America, and Vindictus support can be either spot on or completely off. Nexon NA has just as much reputation “patching games only to break more than the patch fixes” and letting game breaking bugs slide for months at a time. I’ve been a customer for over 3 years and the issues with patches and simple customer support matters are the worst, which is sad because Nexon actually has some decent games if you’re into that sort of thing.

    • Sheza says:

You’re talking about Nexon America. Nexon Europe are much, much worse.

You people should not be so forgiving. Games coming out later to Europe is standard practice in the EU F2P industry. It has absolutely nothing to do with them “perfecting” the game or their business mode.; Might I just add that they have over 10 years experience with the F2P model, I hardly doubt they needed to change anything. Of course, they DO need to change. They just don;t, because they’re like that.

I give it until 8 months after commercial release that 70% of the game’s population have a major ongoing issue within the game, and then another 6 months after that where all hope is lost and you just play the game for the game, and absolutely loathe the company.

  32. Daiv says:

Somebody get me my beta trousers. I’m going in!

  33. daseong says:

    Oh yeah, thank you :D

  34. Norrall says:

Much obliged RPS. Only a few days till it starts :)

  35. Temperance says:

Awesome, I had been mocked and frustrated by the “Coming Soon” EU website for what I think was a year or more, and now I have a key, cheers.

  36. Bromhex says:

Thank you very much, good sirs.

  37. washaa says:

    Thank you RPS!

  38. shitflap says:

I clicked to see the bad news message & got a key
Suppose I’ll give it a bash, it looks like Dynasty Warriors :)

  39. Sheza says:

Might I just add that, whilst I am fully supportive of RPS, Nexon has been giving out these keys like candy.

Facebook and Press Beta Key so-called “give-aways” are their skewered attempt at marketing and promotion for the game, since they can’t afford to market Vindictus properly after a) splashing out on a Gamescom blowout and b) wasting £100k on a marketing campaign for a completely dead game (spoiler: Nobody ever saw any adverts for it)

So I have like, three keys now. I jumped on to Facebook to get one when they first came out, then they force-sent me another one (I was on their mailing list and they forgot to tell us about the give-away as promised thus just gave us all a key) and now PC Gamer, RPS and Gamespot UK have them all.

  40. Jams O'Donnell says:

Where can I buy one of those there giant bear things?

  41. F4T C4T says:

Thanks RPS! Looking forward to trying this one out.

  42. Shadowcat says:

The polar bear. Ohh, Mister Polar. Ooh, Monsieur Polar, non. He’s a very dangerous animal. Very clever. Very fast. Oh yeah, faster than you’d imagine: he can out-run a man. He can out-run a horse. He can RIDE a horse. That’s the polar bear — the jockey of the animal kingdom!

  43. Atrak says:

As an Australian I wasn’t allowed to play the US version of this awhile ago, are Australians not able to play in this version too?

  44. adonf says:

Thank you RPS, this comes at a perfect moment (right at the end of polar bear hunting season)

  45. Judaz says:

Hey that automagical stuff really works!

  46. Sheza says:

This image related perfectly to the Vindictus EU Beta key give away.

    link to

  47. LMAOMOBILE says:

sorry european bros, i claimed a key before realizing i could already play this game if i wanted to. contributin

  48. Enef says:

Anybody noticed that their site is now just a glorified splash page?

When i go to the EU Nexon website i don’t get an option on there to enter my beta key anywhere, kind of stuck on how to actually use this beta key i have, now.

  49. Samet says:

the key doesn´t even work.. -.-

  50. clippa says:

Horrific mouse acceleration, no way to turn it off so it got uninstalled after about 10 minutes.
