Hyperkinetic Wererabbity Thing: ^_^

Every screenshot should have a top hat on it somewhere

Who would make a game called ^_^ ? How am I supposed to refer to it in conversation? I suppose I’ll call it the werebunny game and hope that there aren’t hundreds more that I don’t know about. The chap who did make it is Ben Chandler, who seems to make at least one adventure game every time he walks past a computer. ^_^ is very short and not too difficult but it’s funny and strange enough that I enjoyed my half hour with it. It helps that biting and headbutting objects is considered normal. Most of the dialogue raised a smile and I’m in an afternoon slump so it must be doing something right to coax anything even resembling joy out of me. It’s made in AGS and you can download it for free here and loads more of Ben’s games here.

I don’t even know what a ^ is called! The game’s pretty fun so far, though.

    • JB says:

I call it a “shift-and-six” but I suspect that I’m not using the correct terminology.

    • c3lt says:

      It’s a caret.

    • Giant, fussy whingebag says:

It’s a caret, or a circumflex accent when atop a letter.

So I guess the game could be pronounced ‘caret underscore caret’ but it takes away all the charm (?) of the delightful emoticon.

    • thegooseking says:

I guess with the wererabbit theme, it’s an implied pun on caret/carrot.

And if it’s not, it should be.

    • Cryptoshrimp says:

      Thanks people. Knowledge is awesome.

  2. Diogo Ribeiro says:

“How am I supposed to refer to it in conversation?”

You just make that expression. “Hey, have you played this game? It’s called –”
then you make that Neko-like face. Most people should feel intrigued, though be advised at least one or two blokes might want to introduce your face to a crowbar.

  3. AshEnke says:

I like how he also has a game called “less than three”
This guy sure doesn’t want us to talk about his games.

    • Giant, fussy whingebag says:

They’re also fairly elusive when googling. Who does that? That said, adding AGS as a term does pop them at the top.

  4. Nero says:

I will call my game ಠ_ಠ

  5. BobsLawnService says:

So it’s like Sam and Max, just not as good and without Sam?

    • LintMan says:

For a second there, I thought this article was about a new Sam and Max game.

  6. lhzr says:

Speaking of Ben Chandler (whos got some of the best looking indie adventures around), there’s one named after him in the ags bundle: http://www.agsbakesale.com

Said bundle contains 14 before-unreleased games that are also exclusive to the bundle (afaik). Haven’t tried any of them yet, but I got the bundle, because it’s pay-what-you-want and I like adventures so why the hell not?

  7. The Sombrero Kid says:

To be fair it got my attention.

  8. youthful cynic says:

    ‘Cracking game, Gromit’

  9. Insidious Rex says:

That thing in the top middle sure looks a lot like Aku

    • JBantha says:

I think the same, actually that was the main reason I played this.

  10. JBantha says:

I absolutely loved this game! ^^, short and silly and funny and louder and yey! ^_^

  11. CrowPath says:

    Dammit, out of ice cream.

  12. blueryth says:

Was I the only one that saw the ears at the bottom of the image and immediately dreamed of a return to 2D Sam and Max?

  13. tehfish says:

Got myself really stuck on it.

    i have 2 records, a feather and a kite.
have tried interacting with every object and using every object on everything else… no idea what to do next!

    • Sagan says:

You can do something with the pig.

edit: And right click on the kite.
