Tactical Intervention Pokes Its Head From Cover

Quick, clean the place up! People are coming!
Counter-Strike co-creator Mihn Le left Valve a few years ago to work on his own interpretation of the CS formula, but he took something with him: he runs on Valve Time, that temporal twisting that people experience in the presence of all those Steam servers. For years and years I’ve been hearing about his free-to-play Terrorist vs Swat team game Tactical Intervention, and it finally looks like it’s breaking loose in 2012. The American launch of the game will be in Spring 2012, with closed beta testing in March. There’s even a new teaser trailer, showing rappelling!

I have a fair bit of interest: Valve’s treatment of CS has been very conservative, which is unsurprising given it’s their biggest game, and any changes are met with a terrifying amount of focus. But Tactical Intervention has rappelling, attack dogs and highway chases, and the sneaky beta footage looks entertainingly shonky. The hostage animation there cracked me up. When it arrives in Europe, I’ll be up for a few games.

  1. RizziSmoov says:

When I saw it last year it looked like shoddy, mindless fun.

P.S. CHKilroy has a ton of ArmA 2 videos and Mount & Musket linebattles footage. Nice timewasters.

  2. Serge says:

    Looks cheap.

EVEN for free to play game.

  3. Robin says:

At last. I’m very curious about this.

  4. oldage says:

Can’t be the only one who heard the Epic Meal Time music, right?

  5. Text_Fish says:

Meh. The trouble with things like rappelling is they’re usually not prevalent or important enough in the game to warrent the developers programming them properly, so it’ll be a souped up QT event available only in very specific circumstances. Probably.

If I’m playing a game with rappelling then I want to be able to rappell EVERYWHERE, including off my attack dog’s head.

  6. grundus says:

Fix Korea, is that an order or a developer?

    • InternetBatman says:

I saw that and thought “This is going to take a lot of Krazy Glue….”

  7. Flappybat says:

When I played it about six months ago it was a mess of unnecessary ideas (dogs, really?) with the lack of polish you’d expect from a free to play FPS.

  8. Metonymy says:

Hory sheet, this needs a better name

  9. InternetBatman says:

The hostage taking looks really cool, but the engine looks really old.

    Bluerps says:

Wait – rappelling attack dogs? Aweso … aw. There’s a comma between the words…

  11. kurtensen says:

    So he left Valve…for this?

  12. dsch says:

“Counter-Strike co-creator Mihn Le have left Valve …”

  13. fallingmagpie says:

    Is it 2004?

    • staberas says:

no 2012, i played it for a while and let me tell you there wasnt any tactics involved in this game.

  14. Lobotomist says:

Ok. This looks like excellent competitive shooter.

Focus on gameplay and not on graphic.
Great level design. Innovation (versus histerical conservativity of new CS)

    • ch4os1337 says:

I don’t know why bad graphics is a good thing, graphics haven’t been the main focus for games since id say 2007. We used to have games that raised the bar every other year or so but since people don’t care about advancing technology (-_-) we have stagnated and the only game I’ve seen in recent times that are pushing the limits is The Witcher 2 or Arma.

  15. mollemannen says:

not a very good trailer. from what i saw there is recoil. and a dog i think.

  16. Solrax says:

Free to play? Does that mean the game is free but we have to use real money to buy guns and ammo at the beginning of each round?

  17. Shooop says:

So there a P90 and people taking hostages. That’s about all this trailer tells me.

  18. The_invalid says:

    Looks kinda janky.

  19. Sheza says:

I played the EU Beta of this game, and it is very poor. I’d skip it, not worth playing. The animations are clunky, the mechanics are both confusing and somewhat broken… it’s just poor.

  20. wazups2x says:

I have to say it.. this looks very bad.

  21. Navagon says:

    “rappelling, attack dogs”

But what it needs is rappelling attack dogs. Sodding comma ruins everything.
