What Will You Play This Weekend?

So… what are you up to this weekend? What are you going to play? Did you risk Hitman? Or are you going Planetside? Do you ever take a weekend off just to plough through a whole bunch of indie games that you bought or bookmarked by never got around to? I have to admit I’ve been playing catchup of late – which might explain the tardiness of a few of my reviews, but anyway. This is about you: I particularly want to hear from folks playing multiplayer games – what are you playing, who are you playing it with, and does it involve the RPS gang in any way?

(There are some great PS2 threads here and here, if you want a game with friendly types.)

  1. Gloam says:

I’ll probably try and finish up The Walking Dead, a little late to the game, but I have to say it’s really something. Beats a DVD boxset at any rate. Also planning on dipping into some Natural Selection 2 and CS: GO.

  2. malkav11 says:

Hitman: Absolution, at least if it picks back up again before my patience wears out.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, because I am a completist and am reluctant to play ACIII before I finish Brotherhood (and maybe Revelations), even though I am assured they don’t really matter.

Possibly some Sleeping Dogs, Batman: Arkham Asylum, or Prototype 2. I’m looking to actually finish some of the games I’ve started given that I fully expect to be adding to my backlog over this weekend.

Oh, and Torchlight II while I listen to podcasts.

PS: PS2 is a terrible acronym for Planetside 2. The immediate association is Playstation 2.

  3. Barberetti says:

Not sure. Just found out that there’s some sort of computer game carnival going on tomorrow at the local pub, so I’ll probably be checking that out. Might play some Minecraft though on Sunday, as I’m in the middle of a XXX Hardcore game with a friend of mine. If not, then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC or continue with my umpteenth playthrough of Quake.

  4. Cerebulon says:

Arma 2, Sims 3, Planetside 2 and Lord of the Rings Online if my account gets given back to me.

  5. Premium User Badge

    bsplines says:

I ‘ll try and finish my campaign in X-Com: UFO Defence. Pretty close to the end but there are still 3-4 big battles that need to be fought before the end so probably won’t make it all the way.
My laptop can’t handle Planetside 2 so I will play a bit of Awesomenauts instead.

  6. roryok says:

Hoping to finish Black Mesa and get back to Skyrim

  7. Kefren says:

Dancing Stage Universe (Xbox 360, ahem).
Ticket To Ride: Europe, or Pandemic (boardgames).
Serious Sam The Random Encounter (PC), followed by a new game, not sure which yet: torn between Oolite, Metro 2033, Lone Survivor and King’s Bounty.
Also playing the game of trying to make changes to my novel during any creative fits. It’s important that the last one is the one I appear to be doing whenever my girlfriend is around.

  8. QualityJeverage says:

Lots of Hitman: Absolution because I love it. Please don’t crucify me.

Also a big blank space for whatever games I end up with because my wallet can’t survive Steam sales. *gulp*

  9. coolwithpie says:

I’m picking up Civ V in the sale to play with some friends

    After that probably gmod tower

  10. zeroskill says:

I was looking to finally give Planetside 2 and Hawken a shot. But i’m afraid that between Dota 2 and Dwarf Fortress, as usual, there won’t be much room left for anything else.

But then there is also the Steam Autumn Sale which will force me to buy games. Already picked up Zeno Clash and DoD: Conquest of the Wizardlands and will surely find something I can’t pass up on until Monday. And finally, i’ve been iching to start a new Doom 1/2 playthrough with the Zdoom mod. I was also looking to get into ZangbandTK which I havn’t had the chance to play yet, and I hear it is quite fantastic. It’s never too late to get into a great roguelike. Too many games, too little time.

  11. Binary77 says:

Now that i’ve beaten Hotline Miami to death with a crowbar, i can get on and finally finish RAGE. I reckon i’ll give Stacking a look after that’s out of the way.

  12. eleclipse says:

Mount and blade warband, and maybe some tribes ascend

  13. Craig Pearson says:

I’ll be in Planetside 2. If anyone wants to try something different, I can recommend Just Cause 2 MP. It’s live this weekend: link to jc-mp.com

  14. Nova says:

I’m gonna watch some more Max Payne 3 cut-scenes. (That’s the official subtitle surely? MP3: Cut-Scenes)
And a little MechWarrior Online with a buddy.

  15. kregg says:

I’ll be playing TF2 as I got a Steam Linux beta invitation.

    Go me!

  16. Shinwaka says:

Going old school: Temple of Elemental Evil and Ultima IV.

This might be blasphemy, but I would love to see how Ultima IV would look using the Frostbite 2 engine.

  17. Berzee says:

For reasons unknown, I decided to reinstall M&B Warband and play some “cRPG Mod” this weekend. Anyone else play this? (I haven’t been on in munce and munce, but it struck me as the best plan today).

  18. paymentplan says:

I’ve finally got off my ass and have started chewing into Baldur’s Gate, with the Baldur’s Gate Trilogy mod. I’ve just now made it far enough into the game where I want to keep playing. So it’ll probably be a lot of Baldur’s Gate, maybe with some manshoots sprinkled in.

  19. Axyl says:

Planetside 2. I may sleep occasionally.. maybe.

  20. MOKKA says:

Probably some Hawken (thanks to RPS) and way too much NBA 2k13 (I’m not even enjoying it that much, but I can’t stop). Also a bit of Just Cause 2. I recently discovered mods in this game and now I can understand why people find it so enjoyable.

I’m probably going to ignore the Steam Sale, I already spent way too much money this month and the only Game I might be interested in getting is Dark Souls.

I also got Cosmic Encounter (Boardgames count as well right?) a few days ago and hopefully I’m able to play it this weekend.

    • Mr. Mister says:

If you say you’ll play JC2 for the mods, why not try the multiplayer one? There’s a public test this weekend, and I’ll be looking for RPS cohmraddez.pi

  21. VanishedDecoy says:

The original Deus Ex for me. Have been putting that off for a while.

  22. gaiusimperator says:

Ahhh, well my good sirs, I shall be having a spot of Dishonored, with a side of RAGE, for what man cannot let his animalistic side out at times. Besides, Boomerangs are cool, quite like top hats.

  23. Squishpoke says:

    Natural Selection 2!

  24. derbefrier says:

Probably some Planetside 2 for some explosions and stuff. I also finally picked up Darksiders and I think thats what my focus will be(seemed fun from the hour I played last night) but that could always change depending who on my friends list is online. I also picked up Krater and some game my friend wanted me to get cause it has co-op called The Cursed Crusade. Plus whatever other random game I may pick up during all these sales going on this weekend.

  25. Xari says:

I’ve been keeping myself busy with another playthrough of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, this time with AMK 1.4 and a bunch of graphical enhancements installed.

  26. Lokik says:

I’m quite happy playing King of Dragon Pass again after losing the original CD and finding out you can get it from GOG. Makes me sad that basically nobody knows about this amazing game. Hopefully the GOG and iPad versions have sold enough for Orlanth to bless the world with a sequel some day.

    • pertusaria says:

It’s high on my list of things to get from GOG, once I feel like I’d put the time into it if I had it. Looks lovely.

      • Lokik says:

Yeah, it is quite lovely and unique. I remember the game seeming a bit overwhelming first with all the lore, strange names, numerous gods and rituals, but once you get more familiar with the world, it is a truly wonderful game and setting to lose yourself in.

  27. Tei says:

Probably more Planetside 2, and will continue with Walking Dead and some Natural Selection 2 (I hate it).

  28. Zanpa says:

I would play Planetside 2, which seems like my perfect video game… But my computer can’t run it.
I would play Natural Selection 2, which I bought and have been wanting to try for a few months… But my computer can’t run it.
So I will play Battlefield 3. That my computer can run at 60 fps. Yup.

I’m not too sad about it though, because I’ll be playing with friends. Three Polish guys, one from Portugal, and a weird Swedish dude. And I’m French.
Don’t you just love how video games can make the distances pointless and put people from all countries together?

  29. mrmalodor says:

Starcraft 2, which is 50% off now, and then try out the new RO2 map.

  30. Uncompetative says:

    Halo 3

I’m still in love with Mythic Multiplayer.

  31. DXN says:

Natural Selection 2, because I’m just as addicted to it as I was to Natural Selection 1.

Planetside 2, to see if it runs on my creaky old rig, which the beta didn’t really manage.

DOTA 2, because someone gifted me a key and I have so much to learn. So much.

Arma 2, for the RPS-people FOLK session on Sunday ( link to rockpapershotgun.com ) , and to play around with the mission editor.

Halo 2, because decent-but-kinda-boring Halo 4 made me remember how much I enjoyed the second game, despite its flaws.

    2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2.

  32. Qwallath says:

First I’ll be playing drums all day tomorrow. Then, onward with The Walking Dead, which I started yesterday.

  33. Kadayi says:

More Hitman:Absolution (which I’m getting into esp with the challenges) and I might well replay the TWD as it’s presently my GOTY having concluded it the other day.

  34. Kismet says:

I’ll mainly focus on finishing Red Dead Redemption and possibly start one of the titles I accumulated during the three months I was lost in Guild Wars 2, with some multiplayer Need for Speed: Most Wanted for variety.

  35. TomxJ says:

Hope to finish Black Mesa this weekend. Will also fly about in Waking Mars.

  36. Xanadu says:

Guild Wars 2. My guild is on the same server as the RPS guild, so I run into fello RPSers often. If you see Ohara Scarlett then wave.

  37. PikaBot says:

Probably take a few more futile stabs at XCOM Classic Ironman. It’s crushed my aspirations five times in the last week

Going to start GTA IV, which I just picked up on sale.

    • almostDead says:

I recommend watching Beaglerush on YT for his let’s plays for that game.

      • PikaBot says:

I’ve been watching them, and they are helpful! Not quite enough to push me over the top though.

  38. I_have_no_nose_but_I_must_sneeze says:

Deus Ex: HR, for me. Yes, I’m behind the times. When ThiFOURf comes out, I’ll probably be playing Dishonored.

  39. pertusaria says:

I’ve been flitting between games in an effort to reduce the number of games I’ve bought and not touched at all, so it’s a little unpredictable. Possibly Waking Mars, Qasir al-Wasat and Don’t Starve; might get around to Crusader Kings 2.

  40. almostDead says:

Fuck me, I just got dishonored for 11.25 pounds from GMG, so that, I guess.

  41. fish99 says:

Definitely will be playing some Planetside 2, my system runs it pretty well and no major issues encountered so far, except for just now playing at peak time, and the servers seem to be overloaded (i.e. lag and way too many people everywhere). Think I’ll stick to playing it after midnight. It’s amazing though, and very addictive.

Also want to try Chivalry which I picked up yesterday, and the latest Borderlands 2 DLC. Maybe I’ll continue my latest System Shock 2 playthough when I get chance as well (in stereo 3D).

  42. Minsc_N_Boo says:

I will mostly be playing Torchlight 2 (I love this game!) and Guild Wars 2. I played the free weekend on GW2, and I enjoyed it a lot. I have played a free trial on WoW recently, and while it was fun playing with some friends it certainly feels like an 8 year old game.

I have the new hitman game in my steam library (free thanks to my recent 7950 upgrade :P) but after reading the Wot I think I will save that for a rainy day…. it sounds like IO broke the game, which makes me sad as I have enjoyed all of the previous games :(

  43. Battlesheep says:

I got into the Teslagrad Alpha, so I’ll be playing that til I pass out

  44. Chmilz says:

Civ 5 as usual. I’m so close to cracking 1,000 hours played. Not sure if that’s good or not, but I guess I got my money’s worth?

  45. frenz0rz says:

I want to play Planetside 2. Oh, how I want to. The old girl just cant run it properly though.

  46. urughak says:

    Warcraft 3#

  47. Chris D says:

Just picked up Borderlands 2 so most likely more of that, but Waking Mars and more Shogun 2 are also a possibilty. Got a new PC recently and still celebrating being able to run things on maximum shiny.

  48. horus_lupercal says:

Rage for me, it was £3.24 on steam so I thought why not and so far it’s pretty good, nowt amazing but still pretty good :-)

    • aldo_14 says:

How buggy / problematic is it nowadays? I was sorely tempted at 3.24 but the reputation at launch, plus the suggestion there has been little or not post-release support, put me off.

  49. phenom_x8 says:

Beyond Good and Evil, Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs, Blood Money!
Regarding to BGE, its trully atmospheric and great game, the world ubisoft created are massive and full of detail I’ve never thought before. Looking for an object to take a picture also quite fun, you know trying to photograph a creature that attacking you and then knowing their scientific name’s are totally awesome.

  50. Bob says:

Deus Ex with the HDTP beta and the full (just released) version of New Vision…..sweeeet!

Borderlands 2 Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage DLC if I can fit it in.
