Give Some More: An All-Star TF2 Charity Match

What happens when you put Notch, Gearbox, Yogscast, Day[9], Bethesda, Valve and more in a room together? You’ll find out soon in a new release from Vivid Video. (DON’T Google that if you don’t already know what it is and/or are being observed by anyone). What about when you just put them in a virtual room? Well, then they play a Team Fortress 2 match for charity.

The fifth TF2 Mixup is due early next month, and plonks assorted devs, YouTube slebs and more into an 9v9 match. As well as getting to watch the thing, those who’ve already donated went into a raffle to join one of the three currently unclaimed spots in the bout.

Winners have already been chosen by this point, but not yet named, and donations remain open. So who will it be? Well, apparently yThe more you donate, the higher your chances of winning.” Given Notch seems to forever be donating vast sums to Humble Bundles, Kickstarters and whatnot, I presume he’ll end up with the highest chance of winning. Which means he’ll have to play himself. Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold.

The TF2 Mixup has raised £3363.23 for emergency healthcare providers Doctors Worldwide so far, more details on whose invaluable work may be found here. If we can give frightening amounts of money to Kickstarters by old, rich men, surely we can also give cash to watch famous names of our industry go head to head against the guy who sang Chocolate Rain.

If you don’t want people to google a company that sells porn movies while their co-workers are standing next to them, don’t tell them to not google said company.

    • Doomsayer says:

That joke is, unfortunately, kinda dangerous to mental health. Your warning, Alec, won’t stop the curious, and instead sends them to their doom. DOOM!

  2. Bakuraptor says:

Thanks for the promotion, Alec – it’s awesome that this is getting some publicity. One small note, though – it’s not 8v8 but 9v9 in the highlander format – one of every class, in a ‘there can be only one’ format. The additional player on each team to make up that number is a high-level medic from the competitive TF2 scene. [edit] thanks for correction =D

I hope there is no “Girl Gamer” category in this match.

It’s such a stupid title, gamers are gamers, doesn’t matter if you’re a girl or not.

    • yogibbear says:

So do I. I find the obligatory pink headset even more ridiculous.

    • El_Emmental says:

      3rd comment ? impressive :O

I think John Walker gave birth to a new thing on RPS with the topic of sexism, ‘thou shall report any sexist thing in the comments’

ps: regarding the “Girl Gamer” topic, I fully agree with you, why on earth female humans wouldn’t be able to be gamers like you and me ?!

I mean come on, as far as I know you don’t play video games with your genitalia or your chest area (even then, there is accessories for that), both men and women have hands and eyes.

      • Koozer says:

“…as far as I know you don’t play video games with your genitalia or your chest area (even then, there is accessories for that)…”

Wait ,what? Oh god brain, stop thinking about it! aaarrrgh

  4. Lanfranc says:

Surely some revelation is at hand.

  5. sabasNL says:

Great, looking forward to this! Will make sure to support charity as well, ofcourse.

  6. Tomkan says:

Want to see this more then anything in the world.

  7. The Random One says:

Kudos to them for not going with Child’s Play, which I honestly consider to be the lazy choice of charity.
