Door Kickers Quietly Posts A Demo To Your Letterbox

Hey, are you interested a 2D real-time tactics game? I thought you might be, because you’ve got that tacticular look about you. You might therefore be interested to know that Killhouse’s top-down SWAT game, Door Kickers*, now has a free tier on their founders program. This basically amounts to a demo of the full game on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Fancy, eh?

Illustrative trailer embed below.

The Door Kickers alpha can still be accessed in full via their various backer tiers.

*I repeatedly and spectacularly mistyped that as “Door Kickstarters”. You can see how my brain has now been wired.

  1. Lord Custard Smingleigh says:

Once again those Tangos are causing trouble. It’s always the fault of the Tangos.

    • BobbyDylan says:

True, but they’re more interesting than the Waltz.

    • Colonel J says:

And their brethren the pesky X-Rays. I am never sure of the difference because They All Look The Same To Me.

      • Lord Custard Smingleigh says:

If anyone sees Oscar Mike, tell him there’s a man looking for him in Call of Duty. Possibly all the mans.

    • Lenderz says:

Poor Tango, must be a manic depressive, I’m always hearing he is down.

        Buzko says:

‘Manic Depressives’ (now called ‘people with untreated bipolar disorder’) generally alternate between being way up (mania) and way down (depressed). People with untreated depression are the ones who are almost always down.

        The more you know!

    • Ergates_Antius says:

I believe it’s selection bias because whilst it’s feasable for you to be Foxtrotted without noticing, you know when you’ve been Tangoed.

  2. BobbyDylan says:

Great game, I bought it last week. It’s got loads of maps!

Now, all it needs is Xcom style character customisation, and mildly interesting story to link the missions together.

Yet another game where you fight doors?

    • Astartes says:

Door’s have become one of the most common and terrifying enemies in modern gaming.
The Witcher 2 captured the dread of approaching those wooden bastards perfectly.

  5. MeatMan says:

Been looking forward to playing this. Downloading the demo now. Thanks for the heads up.

    Doors shall be kicked.

  6. Colonel J says:

Also that new FTP thing, Doorframe. It’s a bit like Portal only with sledgehammers and carpentry.

    • Lord Custard Smingleigh says:

This concept is so perfect I had to check Google to see if it was true.

You raised my hopes then dashed out my dreams like the brains of a disappointing baby.

  7. stump sock says:

I actually purchased it last time it was mentioned on RPS. It’s quite good! Especially for a game so early in development. It’s not *quite* the “Rainbow 6 planning phase” game yet, but hopefully it gets there.

  8. JB says:

    Consider my doors about-to-be-kicked!

  9. TJ says:

I rather enjoyed that. This is top down SWAT 4; as Bobby says above it just needs some narrative flavour and a bunch more tactical options (without which the current build seems like it would get old fast).

  10. jannikhp says:

was i the only one who’s antivirus put the downloade content into quarantine ? :D

  11. Strangeblades says:

RPS – Where all the intelligent goof balls go to make comments. Never change people. I love you all.

  12. MasterDex says:

It looks to be a tactical, squad-based version of Hotline Miami. Can anyone who’s bought the game confirm or deny?

    • TychoCelchuuu says:

Literally the only things this shares in common with Hotline Miami are violence and a top down viewing perspective.

    • TJ says:

I deny that this is top-down Hotline: Miami. For it is actually top-down SWAT 4, and all the better for it.

      • MasterDex says:

Well either way, it looks like a game worth checking out.
