Let There Be: Child Of Light Out April 30

Nathan has written about Child Of Light, extensively. I just went back and read all of his words and those of the developers, but I’m still confused. Along with the release date announcement (April 30th), Ubi have released a dazzling trailer and it keeps telling me that the game is an RPG, with crafting and skill trees and turn-based combat. I see that occasionally. But I also see a platformer starring the scarf from Journey. Baffling.

Whether it be platformer or RPG, or something in between, Child of Light is absolutely gorgeous. The same part of me that is tickled pink by the presence of Rayman’s lovely groceries on PC is delighted to see Child of Light heading our way and on the same date as it’s due on console.

It genuinely took me until about a minute into the video to realise that what I thought was the scarf from Journey is actually a beautifully animated head of hair. I have also been known to mistake moustaches for mittens, and beards for balaclavas.

Ubisoft is getting all my money this year. :(

  2. JR says:

I’m very glad to see the Ubiart getting more use now… though I hope that Ancel will eventually get ubisoft to open soruce it, or at least do a goofy UDK thing.

    • SominiTheCommenter says:

Or at least release a certain game that should not be named, lest it be jinxed.
It’s the “next-generation” now, Ubisoft is getting no excuses left.

Any idea if this is going to have uplay or not ?

    • DodgyG33za says:

It can have uplay or me play, but not both.

      • LordDamien says:

never so few words meant so much to so many.

      • gravity_spoon says:

Yeah saw a lot of people say the same on Steam forums. I am not gonna buy it either if it has uplay.

  5. Jackablade says:

The apparent Aquaria influence is still very present which makes me a happy type of person.

  6. Viroso says:

Hopelessly hope that I don’t have to log on to Uplay for this game.

  7. mechabuddha says:

Oh hell yes. This looks absolutely beautiful. It could have the worst story ever, I will still buy this.

    • The Random One says:

I don’t know if it will have the worst story ever, but it seems set to have the most annoying way to tell a story ever (every single line rhymes, poorly). But yeah, I’ll definitively buy this too.

  8. thecommoncold says:

This looks like a thing for which I’d willingly suffer through UPlay. PlatfoRPG’s like this always reminds me of Valkyrie Profile, which is enough to make me instantly interested.

Oh look, gems! Because girls love gems. There’s even a diamond gem!
