Persistent Online Corpses: Super Rude Bear Resurrection

“The road to success is paved with the corpses of those who failed,” I casually drop into the conversation. I lean back in my chair, a wry grin across my face. This must be how Dorothy Parker or Oscar Wilde felt. Yet the philistines simply smile then continue as if I’d said nothing. My genius unappreciated, I whip out my phone to tweet it, not forgetting to add #twitticism.

But that really is true in Super Rude Bear Resurrection, a platformer as hard as its many spikes, where you will need to jump on other people’s corpses. Their corpses appear in your game too, see, and are the only way you’ll get anywhere.

In pristine condition, Super Rude Bear Resurrection is unbeatable. Within seconds you’ll find an impassable obstacle, a deathtrap where the only option is to hurl yourself in. But your corpse would stick around, and you’d be able to safely stand on that. The corpses of other players are persistent too, shared across everyone’s game. You’ll use other people’s bodies to pass spikes, weigh buttons down, float across acid, and so on. And, if you’re feeling cheeky, you can shrink or evaporate corpses to screw with other players once you’ve passed.

SRRB is an expanded version of Rude Bear Resurrection, which creator Alex Rose made in a game jam last year. You can still download that or play online to see how it all works.

    I picture this hideous world of nothing but bear corpses spilling out onto the start-up screen.

      That’s pretty much what happened with the jam version. Only the last couple of hundred of corpses are spawned but I turned off the limiter after a first thousand corpses to see what it’d look like.

        That’s awesome, and I’m not surprised to see the wizard tower as completely CHOKED with corpses as it is. That part was brutal! I’m excited about the new game, had a lot of fun with the first one.
