Run Your Own Newspaper: The Westport Independent

What a special day!

I’ve been ██████ ██ writing this post about The Westport Independent ███ ███████ ████ ███ ███, with everything █████ ██, thinking about it ███ ████ ████████. It looks quite splendid ███ █ █████ ███ ███ ████████ █████ ███ ███. See, The Westport Independent is about running an independent newspaper that’s soon to ██ ████ ████ ██ a government bill. Picking and editing stories line-by-line you can print safe news or, as a last hurrah, take █ █████ █████████ ███ rebels undermining the government. You can imagine ███ ████ █████ ███████ ██ a shower of ████████. Come watch the trailer!

The news you report can █████ ███████ ██ the world, which of course changes the news you ███ report on. ████ staff are all people with their own █████ ███ concerns, though, so some mightn’t ████ ███████ ██ risk their lives by covering ███████ stories.

“Whose truth will you print?” ask developers Double Zero One Zero.

They started making The Westport Independent in a game jam earlier this year, and you can still play that old version online. No release date yet ███ ███ ████ ████ ██ ██████ ██ Windows, ███, and Linux.

“█████ ██████ and instantly brought Republia Times to mind, which I always forget about until something like this reminds me,” said Adam Smith, ██, of ███ █████. This ███████ week.

    I [redacted] the [redacted] game.

  2. Anthile says:

What, a game about newspapers and no mention of Mad News?

  3. Vurogj says:

    █ / ██. Would █████.

  4. Morlock says:

This feels so much like Papers, Please that I expected it to be a Lucas Pope game.

    • Kobest says:

This sounds an awful lot like The Republia Times which is indeed a game by Lucas Pope. You should definitely give it a try. (It’s in flash.)

Edit: Whoops, I thought Jim replied to Morlock’s comment.

      • Yglorba says:

It looks like this is going to be a lot more in-depth, though.

    • bill says:

      Has Jim lost his pinkness???

  5. Jumpyshark says:

I do so enjoy a good silhouetted head bobbing, coffee and smoking meeting with my friends.

(The game is very intriguing however, and I certainly don’t intend to be overly harsh as the atmosphere looks delightful.)

  6. Niko says:

I am FLABBERGASTED by this blatant CENSORSHIP and lack of JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY! Also I have no idea what I’m talking about.

  7. MrFinnishDude says:

This is seriously like Republia Times, made by the same guy who did Papers Please

  8. SominiTheCommenter says:

Finally, the search for the Citizen Kane of games is over.

Either that or the Murdoch simulator.
