Sandbox Silliness: Amazing Frog Hopping Over From Ouya

Noteworthy, at the very least.

The official tourism slogan of Swindon is, as far as I can tell, “For Town Centre Shopping Follow ‘Town centre'”. I suggest an alternative: “Home Of Amazing Frog?“. Question mark and all, it was one of the biggest Ouya launch games, turning the Wiltshire town in a wacky physics sandbox filled with trampolines, cannons, fans, bouncy castles, remote-controlled cars, space rockets, cats, skateboarding pigeons, explosive barrels, blimps, guns, and footballs for split-screen shenanigans. Now it’s trying to hop to PC via Steam Greenlight.

This might all sound a bit like That Other Wacky Animal Physics Game, but Amazing Frog? came first. Its playfulness is a mite more directed too, with all the props encouraging players to invent their own games and competitions. I’m awfully keen on that sort of creative play, and not just in video games. Developers Fayju want to add more of that as they bring it to PC:

We want to add more nonsense, more modes, more environments, more characters, more weapons, more missions, more vehicles, more frogs… and we’re gonna! We’ve reached the moon already and we won’t stop there, so come on down to Swindon and join the ride!

“Come on down to Swindon and join the ride”. Chilling words. Here’s the Greenlight trailer, though Fayju also have a big list of YouTubers larking about if you’d prefer that.

Words cannot describe just how happy this makes me. I’ve spent countless hours playing this with family and friends on the Ouya. It’s super fun and silly.

  2. Anthile says:

Is this the real Frog Fractions 2?

    • RARARA says:

Oddly, it reminded me of Half Life 2, considering just how much of it consists of ‘Look at our physics!”

So yes. HL3 right here, gentlemen.

Pretty sure it’s Goat Simulator 2, guys.

    • GameCat says:

      More like Frog Fractions 3/2.

I don’t know why, but this game have Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 vibe… lol

I watched a video of this once, and seeing a PC version announced makes me feel ecstatic. I really hope this port is well done!

  5. RobF says:

Yeahhhhhh. I love Amazing Frog. Glad to see them moving it over to the PC.

  6. Ahtaps says:

Having heard about this masterpiece of gaming from all of the Ouya players, I no longer have to feel like that one kid in the schoolyard who doesn’t have the latest whizmo because I can only afford a PC. Now it’s my time to shine and find the Nirvana that is Amazing Frog.
