Bloody Days – Chivalry: Medieval Warfare’s Free Weekend

He is both armless and harmless, do you see?

Hey, it’s the weekend: relax. Kick back. Kick your shoes off. Treat yourself. Have a banana. Have a cup of good, hot, black coffee. Have a beer. Take a nice long shower. Soak in the bath. Read a little. Stab a man. Sit under a tree in the rain. Go for a nice walk. Stomp over the corpses of your conquered foes. Chat with a close friend. Swim in a pond. Swim in rivers of blood. Crack a man’s skull with a maul. Murder. Mutilate. Conquer. Kill.

First-person meleer Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is free to play this weekend on Steam, see.

Developers Torn Banner have also put the game on sale to celebrate this, with a 75% discount making it £4.74 for one copy or £13.99 for four. It’s £6.74 if you want to get the time-travelling Deadliest Warrior DLC too. The trial weekend will run until 10pm on Sunday (2pm Steam time).

I’ve never played Chivalry myself, more due to business than oversight than anything else. I hear good things about it. Heck, just see what our Adam had to say when it came out in 2012. If I can find a quiet moment, maybe I’ll casually lop a man’s limbs off and leave him to bleed out in the rain.

And in the game.

“Take a nice long shower. Soak in the bath. Read a little. Stab a man. Sit under a tree in the rain. Go for a nice wal- ”

Wait, what was that middle one?

    “Read a little.”

    No, after that.

“Sit under a tree in the rain.”

No, before sit under a tree but after read a little.

      “Swim in a pond”.
I know, it’s very weird and masochistic, right? I shall never understand people like this.

    Last time I couldn’t join any servers….

In the grim darkness of the future, there is mostly waiting in queues and a bit of war.

Red Orchestra 2 is also on a free weekender, just not advertised.
Just bear in mind its about 21GB in size.

    • Anthile says:

Although it should be noted that free weekends are just about the worst time to play Red Orchestra 2. It is a game that greatly benefits from everyone having some idea of how to play the thing which is usually absent during sales. Really, it’s the constant bargains that made me stop playing the game in the end. It’s strange.

    • RegisteredUser says:

It is also at a terrific price for both RS and RO2 rolled into one for a fiver.

  7. Shezo says:

    “Look ma, no hands!”

  8. Gorillion says:

For new players considering the game:
    a) Play the tutorial
    b) Join green (low rank) servers to get your feet wet

The difficulty curve can be crazy depending on your preferred class/playstyle. Rank 50s will make the game feel broken/unplayable sometimes. Not that the game is perfect by any means, but it can definitely be discouraging for a lot of people who don’t have the reaction time/accuracy yet.

  9. bill says:

Not using a monty python quote on that header image HAS to be grounds for dismissal, right?

  10. RegisteredUser says:

I’d give a more extended comment on it, but I’m too exhausted for it. With over 700 hours played and recently having revisted it with what it has become now, including the (to me terrible) new UI, I can only sigh and say that they have kept on patching it into the ground so hard until now it quite well has arrived there, six feet under.
Used to be a really great and fun game though.
Maybe it still can be for some.
