Watch The First Telltale Game Of Thrones Trailer

Iron from ice

Telltale have released the first trailer for their upcoming Game of Thrones game series. The narration is confirmation that the game will have actors from the TV adaptation as it’s narrated by Cersei Lannister Lena Headey. It’s accompanied by a blog entry specifically explaining that Heady will be joined by at least three other cast members – Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Natalie Dormer (Margaery) and Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Snow) – with more to be revealed as the story progresses.

The story itself revolves around House Forrester who have managed to get themselves caught up in the War of the Five Kings. Frankly, you could do that simply by mentioning it but anyway. You can play from the points of view of five members and hangers-on of the house, which echoes the chapter structure of the books. They “must do everything they can to prevent the house from meeting its doom” while dealing with the knock-on effects of each character’s actions

Telltale have this to say about House Forrester:

“House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.”

Truly ’tis grim up North. Just look at Graham.

Ramsay Snow - such a lovely boy.

(Graham will remember that. -Ed)

The first episoide of the six-part series will be available for download “soon”.

Hrm, annoyingly their character model for Ramsey Snow appears to look virtually nothing like Iwan Rheon which is a shame as all the others seem pretty good. BUT they do appear to have captured his awesome Creepy Smile.

Edit: I’m pretty curious about the game as a whole. I greatly enjoyed Telltale’s recent output

I suppose there’s not much chance of a House Sarwyck cameo. A man can dream.

I enjoyed Wolfamongous well enough but felt that it was too much of the same game as The Walking Dead. I hope that they change it up somewhat between their series and that they don’t end up feeling like reskins rather than their own games.

Also, someone should do a video of some key scenes of the TV series with the Telltale elements superimposed. *chop* “Arya Stark will remember that. Ned Stark won’t, though.”

I absolutely adore their Walking Dead games. Wolfamongous, not so much, despite the great setting. This one is probably a pre-order for me.

It would be nice if I could instead give money to someone who could make the final books in the series finally be written. A Kickstarter for getting GRRM off of his slow-writing ass and focusing?

Hilariously misread the first image as “Scat of House Forrester”.

      It’s grim up north.

Seriously though, I’ve got a bad feeling about this one. Previous Telltale games seem to work incredibly well at conveying a lot of character with simplified facial expressions and just enough detail to successfully conjure a scene. Mimicking the TV show and live action actors seems like it can only end up weird. Ramsey Snow may find the uncanny valley to his liking and Cercei’s expression is fairly limited anyway, but as soon as not-quite-Tyrion shows up it’s gonna be weird.

Also just noticed the ‘grim up north’ thing was already done in the article… I’ll get my cloak.

Headey. Lena Headey. Not Heady. :)
