SCALE

Official site

Genre
First-Person, Puzzle
Release date
TBA
What is it?
Another first-person puzzler, but with a concept as mindbending as anything in Portal or Antichamber. Solutions to environment obstacles in Scale are resolved by using your gun to resize parts of the environment to make them bigger or smaller. This lets you take a plank of wood and make it a large enough bridge to walk across, or to expand a model house so it’s big enough to walk inside, and so on.

Tumblestone

Official site

Genre
Online, Puzzle
Release date
TBA 2015
What is it?
A match-3 game that claims to be different from all the others – which is, ironically, what all the others claim. It does definitely have competitive multiplayer, and it’s from the makers of The Bridge, which was a neat, attractive puzzle platformer.

Miegakure

Official site

Genre
Platformer, Puzzle
Release date
TBA
What is it?
A four-dimensional puzzle game, and about as difficult to describe as its early versions are to play. Basically, you’re trying to clear obstacles in miniature worlds, and do so by transitioning the world between two interlocked states, where changes in one affect the other. It’s… it’s cleverer than that, but you should probably go watch a video.

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build

Official site

Genre
Puzzle
Release date
Out now!
What is it?
An adorable, colourful puzzle game about a faceless black blob monster building snowmen during winter. Beautifully animated and drawn, it should be hitting most distribution platforms very early in the year, as it’s promised before the potential for snow fades for another year.

Ironcast

Official site

Genre
Puzzle
Release date
Out now!
What is it?
What did Puzzle Quest need? Steampunk Mecha stomping around Victorian London is the standard reply from all right-thinking individuals. Taking the endlessly moreish simplicity of matching three and clamping it on to ye olde times robot fights, Dreadbit might be on to a Kickstarter-funded winner.

Mushroom 11

Official site

Genre
Puzzle
Release date
Q3
What is it?
Growing yourself across the world to solve puzzles and battle enemies as a nigh-indestructible life-form isn’t a game concept we see every day. Throw in some lovely art and a tonne of polish and you’ve got one of the quietly most interesting indie games announced.

Omnia Mecum Porto

Official site

Genre
Puzzle
Release date
TBA
What is it?
With no shots of UI or graphics to speak of, we’re unsure exactly how this luggage packing simulator will play out. Rather than the physics-based comedy game that title implies, this is a puzzle about figuring out what characters will need when they adventure to different lands.

Toren

Official site

Genre
Puzzle, Adventure
Release date
Out now!
What is it?
From a Brazilian dev team comes the 3D puzzle/adventure tale of a princess exploring a tower. Utterly gorgeous, we don’t have a lot of information beyond the stunning trailer and the non-specific description of being built around an “epic poem.”

All Toren posts.

Frog Fractions 2

Official site

Genre
Frog Fractions
Release date
September 2015
What is it?
Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? Sequel to the surreal faux-education hit of 2012, Kickstarted to the tune of $70,000. We don’t know what to expect because the backers and least of all the developers do. It’s entirely possible this list is Frog Fractions 2. Now, that would be interesting.

Rememoried

Official site

Genre
Puzzle, Exploration
Release date
Q3
What is it?
A spooky, extra-dimensional what-is-going-on’em’up where the environment changes while you’re not looking. According to the devs, a direction sign may form an actual pathway once you ‘forget’ that it’s there. The aim is to climb ever higher, probably in some metaphor for something. You know how it goes.

Chime 2

Official site

Genre
Puzzle
Release date
TBA 2015
What is it?
Sequel to 2010’s indie hit. Place isometric shapes onto a grid to form quads until the board is filled, in a sort’ve freeform musical Tetris. The original was a high-score chaser in the main, though details are light on what exactly the sequel will improve upon, besides graphics.

ElemenTales

Official site

Genre
Puzzle, Action
Release date
TBA 2015
What is it?
Four cursed brothers each now embodying one of the classic elements are travelling the land to try to undo their predicament. You combine their abilities to form Captain Planet solve puzzles.

Hunger

Official site

Genre
Puzzle, Stealth
Release date
TBA
What is it?
Very creepy, very odd looking stealth-focused puzzle solving in a world far too big for your character and filled with tremendous creatures, all of which are gross and seem to have it out for you. It’s all dirty porcelain and discordant piano tunes as you explore an undersea facility.

All Hunger posts.

TIS-100

Official site

Genre
Puzzle, Early Access
Release date
Q3
What is it?
From the makers of SpaceChem, the puzzles to solve are corrupted code on a basic computer system. It’s an 80s computer repair and assembly language simulator, only infinitely more interesting than that sounds.

All TIS-100 posts.
