PSA: Hey! We’ve Got A Functioning Reviews Database Now

If you were to imagine Rock, Paper, Shotgun as a person, we’d be three naughty toddlers balanced on each other’s shoulders wearing a long coat. Ignore the groaning from our knees, pay no heed to the whispers from our tummy; we are a proper full-grown game website and you’ve no reason to argue otherwise. For example, we’ve got a proper game reviews database and everything now. It includes every Wot I think wot we’ve thunk dated back to 2010, it can be sorted by title and date, and golly you can even type words in a wee box at the top and it’ll find reviews that include that word.

What more do you need to know? It loads instantly now instead of taking ten seconds like before, too! We spoil you. Look, here’s a Tim Stone review of Woodcutter Simulator I just found using the page right now. This is hours of fun.

  1. Zallgrin says:

Oh my God. That is really good news!

I have also found confirmation for my suspicion, that you bastards never reviewed nor played Cat Lady. When do intend to correct this critical failing? =<

  2. Runty McTall says:

    Magic indeed!

Any chance of adding the ability to sort by author? I see Rab’s board game stuff is in there and would like to focus on the Florence.

EDIT – Also, erm, the date sorting is a bit shonky?

    • Armadillo says:

Well, if I want to see every review ever written in May OF ANY YEAR, now’s my chance!

    • The King K says:

I like it. I can now easily find out how many WOTs have been released on my birthday: One

      Can anybody beat me?

      • DrollRemark says:

        Also one. Psht.

        • Rikard Peterson says:

          Only Skyrim for me.

          • Znea says:

Four, four of the WOTs are on my birthday. This makes up for everyone banging on about war and being somber every time my birthday comes around.

          • DrScuttles says:

Three, including Dishonored and Avernum and oh wait, is this some subtle attempt at identity theft? Because if so, I’ll never tell you that the last 4 digits of my debit card are 9119.

          • Cockie says:

            I got 5! Woohoo!

          • Bugamn says:

I got two, both with 3 in the name, so neither from Valve.

    • Continuity says:

Sort by author, functional date sort, maybe other other info like word count and number of comments. And unless I’ve missed it somewhere else, a list of tags/links.

  3. SominiTheCommenter says:

Does it work for the next reviews too, or is it a snapshot of the current state?
Does it need human intervention in the background? Because if it does, there will come a time where that feature is abandoned.

    • Anthile says:

      Who reviews the reviews?!

    • Shadowcat says:

Yes — if you click the “future” checkbox, it searches all future reviews as well as the past ones. Pretty cool.

  4. klops says:

    No “XCOM: Enemy Unknown” there.

  5. Tom-INH says:

You can order by score* as well, right?

*the score that the writer would have given, had they been writing for a different website/publication.

    • Premium User Badge

      Matchstick says:

And an option to sort by the score you think the game should have got ?

    distantlurker says:

    It’s been A YEAR. FFS.

Still no wot I think from Cara on Tesco’s finest Pea soup.

I’ve thought about buying it like a *hundred squillion* times, but without a WIT, I just don’t want to waste money that could buy me as many as 2 (maybe even 3!) titles i’ll never play from the next inevitable steam sale.

    Proper website my perky behind!

    *raspberry*! *raspberry*! I say!

  7. Vast_Girth says:

Sort by date does not work. It does it in descending order of the day of the month, with no heed paid to the year or month.

    • teije says:

That is WAD. You should only play games released on prime number days. I thought everyone knew that.

    • Sucram says:

It’s in alphabetical order so it’s sorted first by day of the month, then by the letters of the month then by year.

Which obviously is the proper way date sorting should be done, y’heretics.

  8. agreed says:

Tuesday is the day the best reviews are published.
I would like to play a game that was reviewed on a Tuesday.
Please let us sort by day of the week rather then the nasty date in the month.

  9. Will Tomas says:

This is ace, and thanks for putting it together. HOWEVER – it would be even more ace with the ability to sort by author, and to go back to the actual start of RPS rather than only from 2010… Any chance those will be added in?

    • klops says:

That’d be even nicer! But this is very nice also. How long RPS has been there? Here?

      -EDIT- Oh yeah, 142 years.

        distantlurker says:

It says at the top of the page, 1873.

        (2007 in fact ;) )

  10. sinister agent says:

    games about bums
    bum games
    game with bum
    game bum -homeless
    game bum -homeless -miranda

    • Paul B says:

      Toilet Humour?

(Off-topic: I’ve just found out I can use Adblock to block Taboola Ads (Author of those “You won’t believe these 50 people are dead” style headlines) and that makes me happy).

  11. Laurentius says:

But where did “browse RPS by year/month” button go and why ?

  12. Continuity says:

Finally. Now, more data, and more sort options please!!

  13. SquashMonster says:

“naughty toddlers balanced on each other’s shoulders wearing a long coat”

So, you’re saying RPS really is Hitler?
