I wrote previously about GNOG [official site] when it was called GNAH! and I was charmed by its art style, its playful attitude to puzzle solving, and the fact it’s about poking and rotating gurning faces with rooms inside. The team decided in November however to “throw everything out and start from scratch.” The result is that it’s still a game about prodding at heads, but the art is brighter and more lovely than before, and there’s a musical theme to each floating bonce.

I played an early build of the game and puzzles were solved mainly through experimentation: you’d poke an eye, twirl the ear-wheel, and squeeze a nozzle, and when you rotated head again the room inside it would have changed. Maybe it was a bedroom or a submarine, but whatever the case, it was lightly physicsy and novel.
Not that I’m sad that it’s changed. The video above makes the musical potentail of the game now seem exciting, and the heads make excellent-looking instruments.
The team are promising more videos to come soon, but there are a bunch of illustrations through on the game’s site which give a good further impression of the game’s style.
