Heroes Of The Storm: Eternal Conflict Adding More Diablo

We knew Diablo’s Butcher was coming to Heroes of the Storm [official site] with its Diablo-y Eternal Conflict expansion, but Blizzard had saved up a little secret or two. They don’t let you even into Los Angeles this week unless you have something new to show off, you know.

The Monk and dear old King Leoric the Skeleton King are also making his way to the free-to-play Dote ’em up, Blizzard showed off last night in a new trailer.

The Monk is the first Diablo support character to be added to the game, which means we can expect him to have some nice healing and/or crowd control abilities. A new map, the Battlefield Of Eternity, will also be included when the expansion drops on June 30th. No word on price.

King Leoric’s unique selling point is his ability to stay on the map after he dies. Doing so won’t allow him to do any damage, but it does give him a chance to make his death timer shorter by doing wraith damage.

Treasure Goblins are an extra little addition to Eternal Conflict. These are creatures that spawn before the games begin. If you spot one, kill it. You’ll be rewarded with in-game gold and other rewards.

Does the Witch Doctor count as a support character?

    • Cerzi says:

He’s a specialist, which basically means “miscellaneous”, although the role categories are already incredibly vague in general. That is, specialists are often just assassins with extra pushing power, or they’re heroes that follow a completely different ruleset (eg abathur, murky, lost vikings). Witch Doctor is basically an assassin that can push, though. Lots of damage over time.

if being trapped within a zombie wall by your allies is support, then sure!

    • lordfrikk says:

He has zero skills that support other players, so no.

    No word on price?

    lol not that again.

All blizzard wants in return is your soul.

Yeah and the whole expansion thing is a bit misleading too :)

Jem, have they revealed the price for Dota 2: Reborn Expansion yet? Wont be buying if it’s more than 69,99e

    • Cerzi says:

It’ll be standard prices, the name is just to cover the next 9 weeks of hero releases (1 every 3 weeks). Heroes cost £7.50 or 15k gold (10k gold after 2 weeks), new maps are released for free though.

    • Nevard says:

The “expansion” will be free, because it’s not an “expansion” it’s just a period of themed content additions.
The heroes will cost as much as heroes usually cost.

As much as I love this game, Blizzard really don’t have enough iconic characters if we’re already on “Early Boss from Diablo 3”.

    • Ergonomic Cat says:

Leoric and the Butcher were both in the original Diablo. Their appearances in D3 were callbacks to that. The Butcher is still the most terrifying bad guy in any game I’ve ever played. And King Leoric dropped that crown early on….

      Shows what you know.

I started playing Heroes of the Storm last week and I’ve really been enjoying it. I’m pleasantly surprised that it’s not as “dumbed down” as people were claiming it was.

I like the shorter games and I hate last hitting as a mechanic so I’m glad to see it gone. For me, at least, Heroes of the Storm has seemed like a natural progression of the genre just like League of Legends progressed from DotA.
