Couch Co-op: Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime Is Out

If you’re antsy waiting for Star Citizen to let you and your pal run and jump around inside spaceships as well as controlling them, you can now enjoy an arcade-y couch co-op take on the idea in Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime [official site].

It’s a space shooter where you and a pal (or an AI buddy, if you’d rather) control a battleship with different stations for weapons, shields, and engines, dashing around inside between them to avoid being ‘sploded by strange and colourful enemies. If that sounds your bag, hey, it came out today. Have a peek:

As you’ll see, you two will be navigating through hostile space, dodging enemies and obstacles, raising shields, and blasting away with collectible space weapons like zapguns, neon missile barrages, and a honking great space flail. Space fun for all the space family!

Made by Asteroid Base, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is out for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It’s on Steam, Humble (coming DRM-free with a Steam key t’boot), and GOG for about £9 or £10.

If you dig this but don’t have spare cash at the moment, you might fancy having a crack at Regular Human Basketball. It’s a free game with a similar idea, only with giant heavily-armed robots trying to basketball. Just like we regular humans play.

OMG OMG it’s finally out! I played this with a friend for a few minutes at an indie games expo in Seattle earlier this year, and it’s every bit as much fun as the trailers make it look.

Now if only I had anyone to play with. :(

  2. cpt_freakout says:

Looks great! Wish it had online play, but it looks like a good way to spend some idle time with the partner :)

  3. Lamb Chop says:

Does it have online co-op or just if we’re sat next to each other?

    • Lamb Chop says:

well, cpt just answered that question. Sigh, my gameplaying friends live across an ocean from me.

    • Syra says:

      Also very sad about this.

For a while a few years ago it seemed like couch coop was over, and then all of a sudden there is no online coop in so many indie games. Super disappointing. Can’t we just have both?

      • KamikazeRaider says:

They’ve been developing this for 3 years. Programming multiplayer into your game isn’t some simple thing that you just snap into your existing game. It takes a lot of time and a lot of effort to get it working well. I really don’t understand the disappointment when they’ve been upfront from the beginning that they intended this to be a couch co-op game.

  4. Syra says:

I like the Adventure Timey art style

  5. Synesthesia says:

Yes! Been waiting for this one. Can’t wait to get home.

  6. Timbrelaine says:

Woo! Time to grab the SO and merge with the couch.
