Dying Light Raises Expansion And Enhanced Edition

Today’s a big day for Dying Light [official site], with three new releases coming to the open-world, zombie-slaying, parkouring FPS. I’ll try to explain this slowly, because it’s all enough that there’s a diagram explaining it all. So! Today brings The Following, the paid expansion which adds a new area and vehicles to Dying Light. Today also brings a free update with many tweaks and improvements to Dying Light. Lastly, today brings Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition, which combines the base game (and that patch, natch) and The Following plus all its other DLC. Get it? Got it? Good.

All of those things are now live.

Patch 1.10.0 include better AI, new weapons, a new skill tree, a higher difficulty mode, more parkour animations, and plenty of other stuff listed in the patch notes. Or this video looks at its new ‘Legendary’ skill tree, this one goes over ‘bounty’ challenges, and this one is about Nightmare difficulty. Again, that’s free for everyone who has Dying Light.

As for The Following, it ventures beyond the city and out into the countryside to investigate a cult. Along with a new story and quests and weapons and things, it adds dirt buggies to zoom around and run over zombies. Adam says he’s playing it and will tell us Wot He Thinks in a day or two.

Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition is now on Steam for £39.99. The Following is £15.99. The DLC season pass including The Following and the rest is £23.99 (the price was bumped up after they realised big The Following was big enough to charge more). Anyway! Here’s a launch trailer:

  1. Atomica says:

I’ll have another play of this with the patch. I really enjoyed the mash-up of Far Cry 3 style openness with the Dead Island zombie chopping and the Mirror’s Edge style parkour.

The end sequence though, gosh. They must have hit a deadline rush or something because it was just bad. I hate uninstalled the game for that part only.

  2. vahnn says:

I’m pretty excited for this one. Just recently started the game a couple weeks ago, it’s been a blast after 30 hours, and that’s just screwing around. I’ll have to blast through the sori now and get to The Following. I’m probably most excited for Nightmare mode. Because I hate myself.

  3. Unsheep says:

Tired of zombies ? I’m certainly not, I still love zombie games, and zombie movies too for that matter. It will hopefully keep my zombie-killing-ambitions in check until Dead Island 2 or Project Zomboid are released.

  4. Synesthesia says:

I really enjoyed this one! Now that I finished XCOM2, while I wait for some updates and a performance patch, this should work pretty good.

Has anyone played Dying Light’s coop mode? Is it any good? I might drag my brother down with me.

      Qazinsky says:

Yeah, the coop works as it should, IE you play the singleplayer campaign with one or several pals.

It’s a bit of an annoyance to get to cooping when you start a new game, both players need to solo until after the first night. There’s also the final stretch that needs to be soloed.

You should also try to keep your characters about the same level or the lower level one will be carried so dedicated coop chars seems ideal.

I recommend highest possible difficulty to ensure as much “paniced flailing” and “leaving your brother to the zombies” as possible.
