The Foxer

As you can see, the foxer annexe now boasts a sizeable marine aquarium. That decaying 1/72 Me 323 Gigant on the bottom was Roman’s idea. Look closely and you should be able to make out a little Sd.Kfz. 7 halftrack and Flak 36 artillery piece inside the fuselage.

Last week’s theme: The Toyota War (defoxed by SpiceTheCat)

Below is a list of ’25 Things You Might Find In A Mine’ (‘Things’ and ‘Might’ are used here in their broadest possible senses). For purposes of obfuscation, the ‘things’ have been stripped of vowels and had spaces repositioned. For example, if ‘mine cart’ was present, it might appear as…

MNC RT

The last five entries in the list – those marked with asterisks – are especially fiendish. Not only are they vowel-less, they have also been anagrammed.

Bugger – sorry Stugle, just realised you’d already nabbed that one.

Very snug here in the annexe now, Tim – I thought the ashtray on the bar crafted from the tip of an Me 109’s propeller cone was a particularly nice touch. I shall bring my pipe next time.

I was wondering if 10. was MOTHERLODE FINDER, with the H having wandered off and gone missing in the darkness of the pit?

    • Stugle says:

Drat! I was just getting ready to commit the same thoughts to paper. Electronic paper. Whatever you want to call it. Oh well, I beat you once, you beat me once, and thus the cycle of the Foxer life continues.

      • Shiloh says:

I like to think of the Foxer more as a dogfight – ultimately, as long as we all get home for the de-Foxing and none of the bandits escape, it’s been a good day :-)

        • Stugle says:

I appreciate your more generous definition of the Foxer and will take that spirit to heart. :)

    • phlebas says:

Or without the H it could be MATERIAL DEFENDER.
All those hours of playing Descent and I didn’t remember that the protagonist even had a name.

    • Stugle says:

Well done! I figured the last part was ‘bomb’ and I’ve been scouring references to WWI sapping efforts.

I took a look at the Wikipedia entry for that device and I feel I need a few deep breaths now. Just reading it is enough to make my claustrophobia run rampant.

    12. PEREGRIN TOOK (a.k.a. Pippin – did a bit of time in Moria, and mines don’t come much bigger than that).

    17. Olympic Australis! I finally figured it out! link to en.wikipedia.org

    • phlebas says:

Oh, well done! I got as close as establishing that no Olympics trials seem to have been held in any mines…

      • Stugle says:

I started trying to find something with ‘Ley map’, then I spotted the ‘Olympic’ part but got horribly confused by that final ‘s’.

Having just spent some time reading up on the South Pole Telescope, I remembered Aurora Australis (it’s in the Wikipedia picture of the telescope at night) and that was that. :)
