Star Wars Battlefront Launches Offline/Co-op Skirmish

The dream is to boldly go where no one has gone before but what if you arrive in a galaxy far, far away to find Rando Calrissian, Han Rando, and co. are already there all boisterous-like? Mate, that’s not on. Good news: Star Wars Battlefront [official site] has added Skirmish mode to let folks enjoy big starbattles on their lonesome in Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron levels. It brings AI bots to fill out teams so you can play by yourself offline or together with a pal in online co-op. Make it so.

The July Update launched overnight, adding Skirmish mode and bringing a load of fixes and balance tweaks. Do get stuck into those patch notes if you want specifics on numbers and values and percentages.

What’s Skirmish mode actually like? Dunno! The folks of cheery RPS fanzine PC Gamer played a little during the Star Wars Summer Holiday Special last weekend, and our pals at Eurogamer have had a crack too. They seem to like it? It’s a pleasant addition? One with no downsides? Nice, cool, it’s here now? Okay? Any more questions, Alice? No? Then let’s shuffle away, shall we?

Can you LAN party this game?

Are there still a bunch of modes or maps that can’t be played with bots then? I’ve seen this game very cheap, like £13 cheap, but I’m still on the fence. Sure didn’t find it fun in the open beta.

I’d say its worth 13 quid but not more than 20. The only modes playable with bots sadly are walker assault and fighter squadron, and only vanilla maps are playable so far (not dlc ones)

I was also a bit unsure (didn’t think much of the beta last year) but you can have a go at the base game for 4 hours. I did the 40GB download today and after two hours or so messing around with the bots I’ve stumped up £12.99 for it.

Game gets a lot of flack, deservedly and undeservedly, but the simple fact is that if you want to do Star Wars Shooting, it’s the king.

    • Janichsan says:

It’s not that there are many (current) alternatives…

Well, in the show they usually solved conflicts through diplomacy. So I don’t think it’s that surprising that there aren’t that many shooter games based on Star Wars.

      • Neurotic says:

True enough, yeah. I would say Republic Commando is the next best thing, even with all its third-person squad-command stuff going on. Great fun that one is!

    ??
Since when does this game have big space battles?

    “Make it so.”

i see what you did there …

I can’t believe they still haven’t been able to put the giant, floating head that barfs machineguns all over the battlefield in the game yet. It’s literally the first thing I think about when someone mentions Star Wars.

This game plays like it came free with a box of cereal.

Nice … i wish they would add that feature in BF4 too.
