Steep Gets A Release Date And A New Trailer

What’s that coming over the hill? Why, it’s Ubisoft’s open-world snowy sandbox, Steep [official site], with an official release date. Steep skis onto PC on December 2nd, when you’ll be free to have altitude-defying adventures at your leisure. We also got a new trailer, which sees folks skiing, and wingsuiting, and paragliding to a catchy tune with the express purpose of getting you hyped for the game. It works, too—the game looks like a blast.

Playing online you’ll figuratively and quite possibly literally run into other players in the vast alpine environment. You can compete against your friends or play solo if that’s how you roll. Ultimately, you’re at liberty to play the way you want. If you’d prefer gliding peacefully among the snowy peaks to pulling gnarly stunts, then by all means go ahead! Steep is set in the Alps for now, but a post-release update will add some mountainous Alaskan terrain for you to explore, as well.

Ubisoft Annecy, hailing from France, is taking the helm for the game’s development, but Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Kiev are helping out a bit with the PC version, too. If you can’t wait until December to play, you might want to hop on over to the official site and sign up for the beta using your Uplay account.

  1. Baboonanza says:

I will confess that I only watched the trailer to see if there was anything to complain about but it actually looks like a lot of fun!

    • Psychomorph says:

      Hype trailer works.

      Waiting for big disappointment review.

    • Buggery says:

It looks exceedingly pleasant. I profess cautious optimism.

    • Darth Gangrel says:

At least you watched the trailer, instead of deciding in advance to complain about it, because reasons.

That you reconsidered complaining about it is what separates RPS commenters from many others around the internet.

  2. Meldreth says:

    No man’s skis.

  3. A Gentleman and a Taffer says:

Cool (geddit!?). There aren’t enough ski/snowboard games aboot, nor gliding for that matter. Could this be the long awaited return of my much loved 1080 Snowboarding and Pilotwings obsession on N64?

  4. JFS says:

Judging from the deerman, apparently it IS a monster.

  5. Person of Interest says:

Another region-locked trailer? I guess I’m not good enough to voluntarily watch their advertisement.

  6. peterako1989 says:

Lets hope its better than an extreme sports compilation on youtube.

  7. TeaEarlGreyHot says:

Not only is Steep the title, it parallels the risk you are taking pre-ordering a Ubisoft title :)

  8. Eight Rooks says:

Looks quite a bit more impressive than Snow, at least. Hey, Ubi! Please, please, pretty please let it be more SSX than tedious simulator? Please? I mean if it is then I’ll reinstall UPlay and buy it day one, basically.

    • Llewyn says:

It’s Ubisoft, I doubt you have any reason to worry about it being a sim.

  9. iainl says:

Sadly, if the AssCreed games set recent precedent, UPlay-only means “Steep” will be the price as well.

  10. Cinek says:

Is that a free game? Cause with all that GoPro product placement it feels like an equivalent of a leaflet students push into your face while walking across the town center…

  11. Urthman says:

Those wingsuits seem like a reckless disregard for gravity.
