Blood-Soaked Shooter Butcher Is Out This Autumn

Eeeew

Transhuman Design, the makers of Soldat and King Arthur's Gold, will release their gross and gritty 2D shooter Butcher [official site] this autumn. It's a bloody side-on homage to classic '90s shooters like Quake and Doom, with an extra dose of guts on the side. Here, let's check it out in a new trailer--come on!

Nice. It's a little gore-porny, what with all of the blood spatters and terrified screams of your dying enemies, but it's beautiful in its own way with the grungy yellow glow of the city skyline and the dazzling pixelated flame effects. It looks to be good, frantic, hyper violent fun. In fact, Graham quite liked it when he played the browser version.

Butcher's ultimate goal is to kill as many people as you possibly can. Transhuman Design encourages creativity in this endeavor. This little snippet from the Steam page says, "Release your inner artist, paint the walls with (permanent) blood (up to 4 million pixels available to be painted per level)."

A wide selection of weapons is available to aid you on this quest, from shotguns, to chainsaws, to grenade launchers. If that doesn't suit you, you can use the environment to eliminate your enemies in a gruesome spray—levels are full of giant saws, lava pits, and even piranhas.

Butcher is out sometime this autumn on Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can check out the old prototype version in the meantime.
