Funcom Show Off First-Person Spooker Hide And Shriek

The Secret World developers Funcom will launch their latest small spin-off game on October 25th, they announced today. Hide and Shriek [official site] is a 1v1 scare ’em up with two teens from Little Springs High and Innsmouth Academy turning themselves invisible to sneak into school and spook each other on Hallowe’en, as you do. They have to watch for tell-tale signs that the other’s about – moving objects, and such – then give ’em a dang good jumpscaring. Kids these days.

So there are you, all see-through, sneaking through school trying to catch out the other student. You can spot ’em opening doors and whatnot and also lay traps for them, from summoning spooky jumpscare skeletons to teleporting them into strange dimensions. Typical Hallowe’en japes for Predators, I’m sure. With a ten-minute limit, players will compete to score the most scarepoints by spooking their opponent and completing dark rituals. Oh, and you can jump ’em with a jumpscare face – customisable in gruesome ways.

Here, check out how it plays in this new gameplay trailer:

You’ve got a week to practise your own Twitch-friendly overreactions. Hide and Shriek will cost £5.99/5,99€/$5.99 (lawks, has the pound fallen that much?) when it hits Steam on October 25th.

I can’t imagine it’ll be a long-lived game but hey, might be a lark for Hallowe’en. It’s certainly a change from Funcom’s small spooky project last year, The Park, a horror walk ’em up set in a theme park from The Secret World.

Hide and sigh. Too few good 1vs1 games when few bothers with organising real-life friends split-screen couch murders.
The 1984 Spy Vs. Spy is as old as I am and about as playable…
