Ubisoft’s First VR Game, Eagle Flight, Is Out

Big publishers have been cautious about virtual reality but are starting to dip their toes into the cyberpool now PlayBoxes are floating in it too. Ubisoft have a few VR games coming and this week launched their very first, Eagle Flight [official site]. It’s a fly ’em up set over (and through and under) the verdant ruins of post-humanity Paris, soaring as an eagle in singleplayer explore-o-challenge mode and multiplayer capture the flag.

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be travelin’ on now
There’s too many places I got to see

If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn’t be the same
‘Cause I’m as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows, I can’t change

Bye and bye baby, it’s been sweet love, yeah yeah
Though this feelin’ I can’t change
Please don’t take it so badly
‘Cause Lord knows, I’m to blame

And if I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn’t even be the same
‘Cause I’m as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change

Eagle Flight is only out for Oculus Rift right now, costing £29.99/$39.99 from the Oculus store. It’s due to hit Vive cybergoggles on December 20th. Ubi’s other upcoming VR games are the long time ago ’em up Star Trek: Bridge Crew, putting players at stations in the Death Star kitchen, and the Werewolf ’em up Werewolves Within.

This looks like the first Ubi game in years that actually seems worthwile. :) It’s expensive, though.

And I dream I’m an Eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high I’m a bird in the sky
I’m an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please

Is this trailer meant to be cheesy or is it just French?

If the vive version is on steam, and not tied to uplay, I will take a look. Otherwise no.

A lot of commentshating on Unisoft, but after the Grow / BUD games (I may need a better way to refer to that series) I’m pretty interested in this. Nice to see oddball ideas emerging from and for VR.

Has a bit of a Superman 64 thing going on.

Nights into Dreams VR might work.

Not sure the ‘Freebird’ lyrics add anything to the piece, other than to pad the length-em-up. A pad-em-up if you will. Are you getting paid by the word-em-up to write-em-up about games-em-up-games of one sort or another-em-up up-em-up down-em-up write-em-up?

    • Steravel says:

I’d like to believe that “Freebird” lyrics always add something to anything, as long as that anything contains something that adds something to anything you might put forth in a ragged verbal fashion.

In other words, burn your thumb on that disposable plastic lighter, and THEN tell me what you think. About Freebird. Or something. Also anything.

Why is the eagle an American species? Are there no eagles in future Europe? Why not a Spanish buzzard?
