Motorsport Manager adding laptop-friendly 2D mode

Motorsport Manager [official site] made its first appearance on PC last month as Sega slipped cars without football into their management sim portfolio next to football without cars. Our Adam wasn’t as taken with it as he is Football Manager, though he says that’s likely because he’s more into kicking. But hey, the game will soon welcome a wider potential audience as an update this week is adding a “2D mode” which looks less pretty but will allow the game to run on slower computers and laptops.

The 2D mode will let Motorsport Manager run on older and less powerful systems, obviously, but sounds like it may be desirable for practical reasons too. Sega say it “[lets] players switch instantly between the 2D and 3D visual of the race, for an even better tactical overview of the race”.

Management sims seem like good games for laptops so this will be especially handy there. For comparison, here are the minimum system requirements for 2D mode:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 @ 2.5 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: nVIDIA GT 335M, 512MB or AMD Radeon HD 4670, 512MB or Intel HD 4000 series
DirectX: Version 10.1

And for the game in its current form with only 3D graphics:

Processor: Intel Core i5-650 @ 3.20GHz, or AMD FX-7500 APU, 2.1Ghz.
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: nVIDIA GeForce GT 440, 1GB or AMD Radeon HD 5670, 1GB or Intel HD 5000 series.
DirectX: Version 11

Good stuff! The update is due to launch at 3pm GMT on Thursday.

Sega also announced today that Motorsport Manager will receive Steam Workshop support in February 2017, supporting yet-unidentified types of “exciting user-generated content”. Good-o!

That header image really needs a couple plastic googly eyes glued to it.

    • vahnn says:

Were I not limited to my phone at the moment, this text would instead be a link to the aforementioned googly-eyeified image.

  2. MyLongAccountName says:

Surely the next logical step is of course Rocket League Manager with BOTH cars and footballs.

  3. Optimaximal says:

The absence of this option at launch is mind-boggling, as the previous mobile-only effort ran in this ‘2D-mode’.

Still, small development team, lofty goals etc.

  4. Joibel says:

This will then be followed by Manager League Manager, where you manage people who install, play and uninstall management games.

Ultimately it ends up in a game called Steam. In this game you have to manage all the games in your collection, which leaves you no time to get any playing done.

  5. Cinek says:

Finally something they’ll be able to play in Russia other than WoT in low details.

  6. Captain Narol says:

Good news, that might make the difference for me between a “maybe buy” and a “stay away”, considering that I play on a laptop that is under the 3D requirements…
