The Foxer

A guest! How splendid! Annexe staff tend to outnumber visitors on Christmas Eve Eve so you may have to sleuth solo today. Do grab a hot mead and a marzipanzer on the way to the den (Roman is particularly proud of his petit four PzKpfw IVs. The Schürzen are made from tiny plates of flaked almond). And, if you aren’t in too much of a hurry, stick your head around the library door and admire Maxine’s completely edible 1:16 Winter War diorama (Those beautiful gingerbread aerosanis are the culmination of weeks of experimentation)

    Correction:
    It’s the Angel Clock tower..

    #####

    The clock is Little Ben:

Spent ages trying to find out what the inscription is and it’s essentially an advert for the creator of the clock ‘J.Smith & Sons’

The words to a version of the nursery rhyme ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ are on the pavement around it:
Up and down the City Road, In and out the Eagle, That’s the way the money goes. Pop goes the weasel

I’m pretty sure the old car in the centre is doing the London to Brighton Veterans Car Run, indeed, I’m pretty sure that’s Brighton Pavilion in the background.
I’ve not tracked down the car yet, but I think I’ve found a different angle of it here.

Seems to be a 1903 Martini. Possible link (or just an interesting fact) it was built by the son of the Martini of Martini-Henry rifle fame.

It’s a tipper model (there’s a contemporary pic of one here).
I suspect the picture is from the Ladybird book of Commercial Vehicles, still looking for more info.

The S series became the RL in military service, and was used as the base for the Green Goddess fire engine.
I’ve also just found they go for less than £4k, and now I’m wondering how difficult it is to get a commercial drivers license…

Our amphibious friend on the left border is a LVT-4 Water Buffalo

  9. Rorschach617 says:

Biplane top, next to Rumpole, is that from Cinemaware’s “Wings” on the amiga?

    • Little_Crow says:

Loved Wings, I did think it might be but got obsessed with the clock and didn’t look into it more.

Looking at some screenshots, it does match to the plane from one of the overhead bombing missions.

Are the stripes from it too, or a different clue do you think?

  10. Rorschach617 says:

The pistol top left is a Stoeger Cougar 5000

    • Little_Crow says:

I’m delighted by the ‘READ MANUAL BEFORE USE’ embossed on the side

      • Rorschach617 says:

        I think

“Read Manual before use” will be the last thing your burglar sees

        was their advertising motto :)

The aircraft bottom right, possibly a Fairey Battle? Not sure though…

    • Rorschach617 says:

Dunno, the fuselage looks a little chubby and the canopy appears to be coming to the windscreen at the edge of the pic.

      How about this?

Looks a good shout for the Kawanishi N1K

Is it the Float plane ‘Strong Wind’ or ‘Rex’ , or Land based ‘Violet Lightning’ or ‘George’?

  12. Little_Crow says:

A seasonal stab at defoxing – It might be ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

Takes place in Bedford Falls, near to Buffalo
    Lead character is George Bailey
Clarence Odbody, Angel 2nd class is earning his wings

Well, I fear that the other clues will remain defoxed, at least by me.

Merry Xmas Everybody, its a pleasure to defox alongside you!

I think I’m about tapped out on this one too.
