Psychedelic nature puzzler Future Unfolding released

The look of trippy puzzler Future Unfolding [official site] got our Adam all in a tizzy when he last saw it, so he (and maybe you) will be glad to know that it has been released. All sorts of hallucinogenic natural encounters await. I won’t pretend to know what’s going on in the trailer below. I think at one point the protagonist is communing with a self-perpetuating horde of rabbits. I think at one point he rides a noble stag. Help me out here.

That was, like, far out. But I’m still none the wiser about what you’re actually doing in any of this. Luckily, the devs have covered it in the more sensible form of the written word. Here’s what the craic is.

Future Unfolding is an action adventure that is all about exploration. Your goal is to unfold the mysteries and secrets hidden in the beautiful landscapes around you….

During your journey you encounter different types of wild animals. Some of them are friendly and help you to solve puzzles that open up new areas. Other animals are dangerous — deadly, even. You need to avoid them, or find ways to render them harmless.

Every object in Future Unfolding is made of dynamic particles and can transform, move or blend into something else – even the ground. You can push through the trees in the forest, you can dash through grass to destroy it, and move every stone in the game.

Well now. There’s certainly something appealing about pushing through a tree and moving stones around in a colourful psychoactive daze. And if that’s what you fancy doing tonight after tea then go for it. It’s out now on Steam, GOG, Humble, and … the Mac Store!? They all have slightly different prices but it looks like GOG is the cheapest at $11.89 [Only in the region you live in, dummy. It’s normal price for the rest of us – Ed].

Music is great, visuals and game play don’t seem remarkably psychedelic to m… a friend of a friend. It is a difficult thing to capture; so far, Proteus is probably the best psychedelic-like game-thingy I know, taken as a whole. I’m up for anything that tries new things in gaming, though!

  2. haldolium says:

I wouldn’t say it’s psychedelic… it is a colorful exploration adventure that goes quite a unique way in presentation and gameplay as well.

So far it is very entertaining and well done.

  3. Ghostwise says:

    Yes, it’s clearly not psychedelic.

I fear that this grievous mistake has forever destroyed the credibility of RPS, who will now have to make a living smuggling giraffe leather between Tamanrassett and Vladivostok in a leaky, creaky Simca 1000.

At least they’ll get out of the uk (let alone gaming) and see the world.
