Roguelikelike platformer Flinthook swings out

Grappling hooks are right up there with strafe-jumping, skateboarding, and swimming on The Official List Of Cool Ways To Move so yes, absolutely let’s peek at Flinthook [official site]. The platformer stars a space pirate who swings through procedurally-generated spaceships, blasting enemies, bopping bosses, and plundering booty. Those space pirates really know how to live! “But Alice,” you wonder, “why do you taunt me so with talk of games that are surely three, six, nine, or eighteen months away from mine own very hands?” Mate, it’s out. You can buy and play it now. Or watch this trailer first:

See? Jump, swing, shoot, slow-mo, bomb, loot, level up, buy things, upgrade. Simple! Rinse, repeat, get squeezed by tentacled cosmic horrors. It’s a basic cycle of raiding a series of ships until you can find and take on the boss, channeling booty back into upgrading weapons and abilities, then heading out a-raiding again.

While grappling-hooking all over the place. The grappling hook is v. important to this. Why walk when you can grapple?

Flinthook is out now for Windows, Mac, and Linux through Steam at £9.89/13,49€/$13.49, which includes a small launch discount. It’s made by Tribute Games, the studio behind games including Mercenary Kings and Wizorb.
