Destiny 2’s PlayStation-exclusive bits hitting PC in 2018

If you’ve been closely following the Destiny 2 [official site] newsfest blastnews announceblam out of E3, you’ll likely know that Bungie’s online looter-shooter: 1) has a PC release date seven weeks after the console launch; 2) has pretty things; and 3) has a cooperative mission, a multiplayer map, and some weapons and gear cordoned off as PlayStation exclusives. I bring okay-ish news on point 3. Those exclusive PlayBits will come to PC eventually, Bungie have confirmed, but not until 2018. Here, watch this trailer for all the stuff we’ll receive late:

What you’re seeing there is ‘Lake of Shadows’, a cooperative Strike mission “to stop the The Red Legion from constructing a time bridge”, along with the PvP map Retribution, the element-switching Exotic-grade sniper rifle Borealis, three armour sets, and a unique (cosmetic-only) model for the ship that shuttles players around.

If you’re playing on PC, you’ll need to wait until 2018 for these, Destiny 2 director Luke Smith confirmed in a tweety-twoo yesterday. None of these exclusive bits are vital but it’s always a bummer to miss out because of marketing jazz intended to one-up another console, especially when the PC release is already coming late (October 24th is the big day, chums).

On the bright side, by all accounts the PC version seems to be the best one technically, with enough frames and pixels to make even the most aloof of calculators swoon.

PC gamer here. I’m not a fan of “preorders” and this is one of those few scenarios where I can 100% make an easy choice: nope, thanks. A 7-weeks delay in a “worldwide” game is just horrid. Those pretty graphics are indeed pretty but nothing out of this world, to be honest. Plus the gameplay video didn’t showcase anything spectacular, innovative or anything else. It looks like a Doom clone with dumb enemies.

Why preordering now? PC users don’t even get the full experience and are asked to wait even more.

The only mention of preordering i noticed was in the ps4 video. At least the 7 week later release date means we get to see how well it is received on other platforms first.

    • BaronKreight says:

No need to preorder now unless you really want to get into beta. The beta for PC will be in august. That’s when people will get hadns on impressions.

As for PS4 exclusive content – I couldn’t care less about that. I can even deal with PC release delay. All this won’t matter that much if the game is good.

      • FreshHands says:

        Stop being rational!

Whining about early access, delayed releases, dlc and platform exclusives is very important. Whining in general is basically gamer culture – and your unimpressed demeanor insults this!

Doom clone? What the hell are you on?

    • Moraven says:

The gunplay is what carried Destiny.

They make lots of mistakes between raid design, item stats, loading screens, etc that anyone that played any MMO the past 10 years could have avoided.

I expect Bungie to continue to over promise and not reveal details early enough to take in good feedback. But the gun play is so satisfying. Big problem with Destiny 1 is Bungie had terrible dev tools. Any changes or additional content took way to long. And half of the new content was reusing current areas in reverse.

Why do developers do this dumb shit

  4. Nauallis says:

Yep, this shit’s annoying. I play Destiny on Xbox. On the one hand, if you’re never able to access the content on your chosen platform, it’s pretty difficult to notice its absence – it’s not “in the game” (though the assets are technically in the data, and it’s possible to glitch into the locked-out strike on Venus), nobody else on Xbox has access to it, and it doesn’t affect in-game progress or achievements in any way. On the other hand, the fact that most of the marketing makes a big fucking deal about “timed exclusive PS4-only content” and does a big hoopla about it… that shit is frustrating. Please, rub it in. And fuck you, Bungie/Microsoft/Sony/Activision. Arguably media makes it worse by fanning the flames. That said, after three years there is so much content in Destiny that the lack of one strike, one pvp map, and a handful of gear/gun pieces is not noticeable at all.

Still, Destiny has the longest “timed exclusive” content I’ve ever seen. It’s 2017, we get the second game in September, and there is still PS4-only content for Destiny 1 that is not available on Xbox, and will only become available this fall, after the release of Destiny 2. IMO, the content will be basically irrelevant to any fans because they’ll be playing Destiny 2 anyway.

    • Moraven says:

I am on PS4 and agree, the 1 year exclusive is a bit much. 3-4 weeks CoD or BF had is tolerable.

That hunter should know, the fairy behind him needs some rupies and will upgrade his gear in exchange.
