Just Cause 3 Multiplayer mod explodes onto Steam

What is the weekend for if not banter, antics, and japery? Go on, round up the lads and hop in the bantmobile to speed smash boat bash plane dash around Just Cause 3 now that its multiplayer mod [official site] has left beta and exploded onto Steam. The unofficial (but sanctioned) mod lets hundreds of players lark about in the explode-o-sandbox world in battles, races, and just plain tomfoolery. Here, check out the antics in this launch trailer:

Splode-o!

When I played the multiplayer mod for Just Cause 2 (which was similar, but made by different people), I mostly joined in endless firefights around the airport. That’s just what I did, mind, not all it had. The Just Cause 3 has a variety of minigames and modes, from deathmatch to races, as well as supporting a scripting language to let people make their own modes and bits.

Mod developers Nanos launched the mod into public beta in January and last night hit version 1.0. This isn’t the end of development, mind. You can track some of the future plans on the mod’s GitLab page.

Just Cause 3 Multiplayer is free to download through Steam, though you will of course need to own Just Cause 3 to play.

Ooooh. I’ve largely defected from PC gaming to the Switch since it was released but this could well convince me to fire up Steam tonight.

The just cause multiplayer mod (JC2MP) had its best times, when there were no dedicated servers (Beta Phase?) and all players were forced to play in one server. You had 1000-2000 players in all corners of the big map. Beside all the (fun)chaos and install kills at the hotspots, it were the random meetups with other strangers for racing/cruising, flying or even roleplay together that i liked. As they started offer dedicated server, the player count per server not reached more then 100-200. Too less for that kind of action. Sure, to have fun with friends similar to GTAV its fine, but that spirit of that open world filled with entertaining surprises around the next corner is gone.

      This ^

I’m waiting for the download atm, what’s the population of the biggest JC3 MP server right now?

      • Honigsenf says:

its only around 100 and 250 at all :/

Maybe the news needs a bit more time to propagate, and then the pop will rise at prime time over the weekend?

Or maybe not. I’m not saying anyone could help it, but I think development just took too long. The internet has lost interest in JC3 already.
