There’s a big Sonic the Hedgehog sale going on right now

11sonicmania

This fella, Sonic The Hedgehog, recently turned twenty-six years old, which means he’s fast-approaching the stage of his life where he’s not sure how long he can describe himself as being in his ‘mid-twenties’ and panics every time a survey asks him to select an age range: ’18-25′ is in the past, ’26-31′ is the new now. And should he listen to the people who say those red and white sneakers make him look like he’s trying a bit too hard?

While Sonic frowns into a mirror, you can save a bunch of money on a stack of games that star the little blue guy. Head to Bundle Stars and you’ll be able to pick up 17 different Sonic games with some nice discounts. That even includes Sonic Mania, which is something of a return to form. He might be getting older, but he can still recapture the glory days every once in a while.

Here’s what you can get – and enter the code BIRTHDAY5 at checkout for an extra 5% off your overall purchase price. Heads up, though, you can’t use this on Sonic Forces even if you wanted to for some reason.

I really like Sonic Mania. To be honest, it’s the only Sonic game I’ve ever really liked.

    Is…

Is RPS dying? This and a few other posts on the front page have no comments (prior to this one, obv) and lately I’ve noticed a lot making it fully to the end of the day with only a dozen or so. This isn’t how it used to be.

I’ve cut right down on my PC gaming this year because I love my Switch. Is that what’s happening in general? Where is everybody?

Well sometimes there’s just not much to say. Like this notice about a sale on sanic. It’s just not comment-worthy.

On the front page there are several articles with more than ten, and occasional posts get in the triple digits.

I don’t know how it used to be, but it’s not dead yet.

Yeah for real, plenty of articles get comments as lively as ever. But I feel like RPS is producing more articles lately, to the extent that I no longer go back and read something I was only half-interested in because it moves down the page that much quicker and is replaced by something else. They’ve started a number of new recurring features too, I think. I may just be busier lately and conflating that haha, but I feel like I keep seeing names I dont recognize as authors. Which could just be memory loss, or could be they’ve expanded their staff a bit (tbh it’s probably both).

I mean the latest bit of scandal with that Shadow of War DLC had a bunch of chatter trailing after it. It’s just that, like.. okay, I played at least one or two Sonic games as a kid, I guess I could say something, but I dont even care about a Sonic sale enough to go comment how I dont care about it. Some of their posts are just little bulletins, but to me it feels like the site is growing, if anything. I feel like articles used to last a week sometimes before going off the edge of the map, but nowadays I actually miss stuff I definitely want to read if I skip a couple days’ checking in, and sometimes it’ll be a full page or two of the “Older Posts” button before I get back to where I left off.

Not to be like, totally contrary haha. Cus you’re right, nowadays some whole articles do escape to the edge of the page with hardly any, if any comments at all, but like I say, I think the current of the newsteam has just ramped up, and comments are like barnacles – the longer your boat is moored in one spot the more barnacles it accumulates; keeping in motion offsets their accretion over time… and I guess in this analogy “drama” is some kind of grungy scuzz which attracts barnacles in particular..? And then I guess a comment section being admin-locked for heat and shade therein is kinda like a boat being so scuzzy that it’s laden with barnacles to the point of sinking under their combined weight, haha.

Yknow, I like the idea of barnacles as internet comments haha. Idk if you’ve ever seen em up close, but they are only really capable of two activities: sitting there inert, and spitting salt water in your eye.

Are the sega Slassics actual pc version or half-assed embedded emulators?

  3. kergguz says:

Surprised* it hasn’t been mentioned on RPS about the cheeky addition of denuvo to Sonic Mania (with no mention of it on the steam store at first).

    * or did I miss it?

Ah, Sombrick the Jamjog… Good old Sancker… The blue runner…

I remember getting dressed in my formal pyjamas and running down to the recreational dormitories, slamming my dvd of Sombo and Knumbles in the Atari Jaguar 2600.

At first, nothing. Then, a vortex of pixels forming the all too familiar U.S. Gold logo, accompanied by the compressed sound of a cat hissing.

Finally, the Blue Bovine himself would claw his comically oversized gloves through a hole in the sky and announce his presence by gesturing the sign of the cross with his index finger.

I don’t have any memories of the actual game, but the intro always stuck with me.

I can just feel this post being glommed onto by Mandela Effect forums as we speak, I sense it like a disturbance in the phantom limb
