The Foxer

Warm-up Foxer (Who am I?)

I almost died in the year WWI formally ended. I crossed an ocean post-mortem. A shape of a specific colour links me to a Bowie album and an Asian sidearm. I was born in Middlesex. I’ve appeared on postage stamps and coins. I’ve an Irish surname. I once topped the bill at Madison Square Garden. I spent time in prison. I’ve something in common with a man mentioned in this document. I was an entrepreneur and poet but am remembered today primarily for achievements in a different field.

Identifying all twelve locations in today’s enlargeable geofoxer will be tricky unless you figure out the theme that connects them.

  1. KarolisLive says:

C: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    H: Svalbard Global Seed Vault
K: Upper Maudlin Street 22, Bristol

    • Gothnak says:

Dammit, i knew someone would be faster :)

    • Gap Gen says:

G is more or less here in Nice (Avenue Jean Medecin): link to

My guess is that L is near Jodrell Bank

      • Gap Gen says:

I’m guessing the shape is “black star”

        • Artiforg says:

Then the warm up foxer must be Marcus Garvey. He was born in Middlesex county in Jamaica, was shot in 1919, went to prison for mail fraud, he made a speech at Madison Square Garden, died in London and was transferred back across the Atlantic posthumously. Marcus Garvey on Wikipedia

          Nice one Gap Gen.

          • Gap Gen says:

            Aha, nice work!

          • phlebas says:

I concur, and am late to the party.
The man mentioned in the document has to be Theodor Herzl. Each studied law but did not practice it, each was disinterred to be taken to another country and reburied as a national hero. Could either of those be the something in common?

    • larpsidekick says:

The building on the left of K is the Bristol Royal Infirmary (generally known as the BRI) if that helps

  2. Gothnak says:

    K: Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol:

  3. Gothnak says:

    L: Bomish Lane, Jodrell Bank:

    • KarolisLive says:

Beat me to it! Lovell Telescope on the right side of the image.

  4. mrpier says:

F: Norwegian aviation museum in Bodø.

  5. Gothnak says:

    J: Bristol Motor Speedway

    Is the theme Bristol? :)

  6. Gothnak says:

B: Queensway, Hong Kong, Bank of China Tower:

  7. Zogg says:

    E: Tate Britain, Millbank, London

  8. Gothnak says:

    Just A, D & I left i think.

I’ve tracked the train in A down to El Centro & Chino in California and does anyone have that FBI software for enhancing text for the Park sign in I?.. Oh that’s right, it doesn’t exist. Looks like Monument Park, but that doesn’t help.

    • Stugle says:

Does it say ‘Einzug’ at the door behind the ice rink?

      • Gothnak says:

I thought it was Eingang but there is a higher letter after the first G.

    • Stugle says:

And are those orange kangaroos? Presumably a whimsical version of the old ‘push a chair around if you can’t stand up on your own skates’ gimmick?

    • unacom says:

Having just compared nearly every W-street running along train tracks in el Centro, i´d say we need to narrow it down a bit more.

      • Gothnak says:

Ok, sorry about that, i’ll widen it out ‘The United States’…

        link to

      • Stugle says:

If you look for the train number (HCLX 38-whatever), you can find some photos locating the locomotive in Fort Worth, TX; Independence, MO; and various towns in Louisiana. That narrows it down significantly from ‘United States’, though I will concede it’s not exactly pinpoint accuracy.

        • unacom says:

The X at the end of HLCX makes it a leasing company.
So it could be used on the whole US rail system.
The yellow carriage has “Union Pacific” partially covered by the graffitti.
Other than that I can´t help.

          • Zogg says:

A bit of digging shows that the HLCX was Helm Financial which is now a subsidiary of Wells Fargo. A tenuous link to a bank but doesn’t help me with the location.

      • Gothnak says:

The question is, is the name of the street ‘West Bank St’.

      • Stugle says:

I’m at a loss. One tidbit I can share is that there are nineteen US states that do not require a front license plate. Since there are many front plates visible in the image, we can eliminate those states. I just made your job 38 percent easier. :)

  9. mrpier says:

I: Civil war memorial Adrian, Michigan

Edit: The column once belonged to the former Bank of Pennsylvania building in Philadelphia.

I want to say it says Parks & recreation department on the sign :)

  10. Stugle says:

I’m going to say that D is in Denmark, because every time I try to search google for ‘Orange kangaroo’, it refers to the ‘Orange Kangaroo in Denmark’ trick. So there.

    • Gothnak says:

The only ‘entrance that has G’s and a letter up after the first G, is Sweden…

    • Little_Crow says:

The versions of those I’ve seen are usually penguins.

Zooming right in suggests these are ‘skate buddy’ thingies but when stacked up do look quite marsupially

    • unacom says:

      These are not orange kangaroos
I think someone stacked some seals. If that were the case, it´d be at the Kunsteisbahn on the Bundesplatz in Bern, Switzerland. But I´m guessing very vaguely, right now.

    • Stugle says:

Can anyone make something of the name on the red delivery van? ‘Jutai’? ‘Jutaz’?

      • Gothnak says:

I think the Green sign two to the left is Valliant which is the Ice Hockey Stadium in Davos.

        • HastyDave says:

It is the Bundesplatz in Bern and the darker building in the background is the Valiant Bank.

  11. jloll says:

I was thinking somewhere on the San Francisco Caltrain track but it’s
A: Burbank-Bob Hope Airport train station (California)
