Card-collecting action-RPG Hand Of Fate 2 has launched mod tools to let players make their own campaigns with new cards and events and whatnot. Defiant Development say these are the same tools they used to create Hand of Fate 2’s own campaign, so there’s your bar; now hurdle it. The tools are free to download, and the game now has a Steam Workshop for players to easily install mods from. Your challenge is to create an RPS-themed campaign, with boss battles based on our strengths and horrible fatal flaws.
“With the Game Master’s Toolkit, you’ll be able to create anything from a simple encounter all the way up to a full-fledged challenge with its own win conditions, blessings, curses and artefact rewards,” Defiant say. Or, if you don’t fancy making mods yourself, those are the sorts of things you can expect to download and play.
Making your own Hand of Fate 2 mods does require some technical fiddling and a fair bit of reading. First, download the ‘Hand of Fate 2 SDK’ from the Tools section of your Steam library (you’ll need to own the game, obvs), then download version 2017.2.1f1 of Unity. While waiting for those to download, hey, make a start on the 173 pages of documentation.
New official Hand of Fate 2 bits from Defiant are coming too, with DLC in the works. Defiant have locked The Dealer in the recording booth again, not letting him out until he’s been sufficiently gittish.

Hand of Fate 2 wisely switches away from Hand Of Fate’s purity, which saves it from repetition but discards its trump card in the process.”
